I was having a conversation today about trikes and the other person said You're too young to ride a trike. I laughed at that remark. Do people have a perceived view of a trike riders age? Is it like social security, I have to be a certain age before I can ride one? lol If I wanted to start snowboarding I am guessing I would be too old?
So to recap I am an ok age to ride a 2 wheeler, too young to ride a trike, and too old snowboard. Life just keeps getting more humorous.

I believe it is 20 in Conn. Just kidding of course. I get "When I am too old to hold my bike up I will park it. " Now a guy who said that to me 3 years ago said "Have you seen the Frankenstein trike I may get one of them " he is 52 now

I haven't seen that trike yet John I just looked at their site

Motorcycle Works

The only thing I have against them is the lack of storage. Great looking machining tho.

Age requirement? If I remember right, I first started riding a trike about age 3.
Took a detour for a while onto 2 wheels exclusivly, then added 4 wheels, up to 18 wheels for a while and added 3 wheels again about 17 years ago. Guess I'd better learn to ride an unicycle to make it a sweep.;)

How about doing a wheelie or two .Does that qualify:2cents::woohoo:

My best mate is 63 he rides a Harley Davidson road king trike, his family keep on to him saying it's about time he packed biking up, i'm going in 60 my daughter calls me Peter Pan because I still love bikes ,trikes, I also ride a Road king Classic trike. Why should we give up Biking, triking, left to them we would be pipe and slippers and rocking chair. I refuse to grow old gracefull
I had my Harley Triked because of wifes authritus of the spine, else I would be still on 2 wheels.

John.

Well, I'm adding the 3rd wheel at 63. People can't believe I did nearly 6,000 miles in 23 days on my trip to Sturgis & points beyond this past Summer on the Ultra. I FULLY intend to do a power slide through death's door yelling "What a hell-uv-a RIDE!" Hopefully, that won't be for some time yet -- still have a LOT of roads I haven't ridden yet & some I'd like to ride again, like Bear Tooth Pass.

The Chief will be 62 in March (he's very excited about the "raise" he'll get when his social security kicks in LOL) and for now, he's still on 2 wheels, but talking more and more about coming over to our "side." We'll see what happens!

I like your attitude, Nauga Mok! :beerchug:

Great confirmation on how I already felt. I don't believe you take on triking because you're too old for anything else, I believe it is a choice you do because you like it. I see triking as a less stressful way to ride. And anything that is less stressful is fine with me.

As for being excitied about soocial Security, well thats another story. I want to see all these Gov't people do without an increse for 2 years as we have been sentenced.

It always amazes me how people want to sterotype everyone. I have a 2003 1800 GW Illusion Blue Trike with a 1940 Ford Trailer that I pull everywhere. I ride a minimum of 12,000 miles a year and I have about $35,000 invested in a beautiful machine. I am in the planning stages right now of doing a 7500 mile ride in 30 days for vacation.

And of course there is always some guy riding a 1983 washed out HD with no power and no comforts of life that he manages to ride between the bars for at least 400 miles every year saying "I'll never ride a Trike their for old men" The real truth is that he can't afford it and he likes dressing up like a pirate and acting like a tough guy!

I'm sorry for showing my anger but I get tired of someone always trying to berate someone else because we don't do things their way. I ride with a couple of guys that ride Road Kings and we have a great time without worrying about what the other guy is riding. But at the end of the day it isn't me the GW Trike rider worn out and ready for bed. They are 54 & 55. I am 66 and I ride circles around them every year. That being said: So What, Who Cares, We went to have fun not critique each other!

So to answer the question: "How old do you have to be to ride a Trike?" Maybe, just maybe you are kidding yourself. If you don't ride any where you don't need a Trike!

I apoligize if I have stepped on any toes!

Wow Boscoporp what was that all about. I just re-read eveyones input on this thread and they were all saying why they are trikers and age was not a facture. So why were you showing your anger on our forum? We are the trikers not the ones doing the sterotyping. Your comments belonged on a 2 wheel forum if necessary or at least re-worded so as not to sound like you are attaching this forums readers/contributers.

Unless I read his post wrong I don't think Bosco was talking about anyone on the forums. I think he was more rehashing something that had happened to him recently. Much like the person that told me I wasn't old enough for a trike. He is right about being stereotyped. People do it all the time and for the simplest reasons.

I think most of us 2 wheeler converts to 3 wheels all have lost a person or 2 that used to ride with us because we went 3 wheels. I know at least 3 or 4 of my past group seem to shy away. That's all right though, because I have another 5 to 6 that have become a closer riding group. I did not take it TO personal. We all do some sterotyping it's the nature of the beast. Just have to remember to keep an open mind and to change that sterotype impression as the facts come out.

Let me apoligize for my fit of anger. You hit the nail right on the head i was just on another forum and someone really got under my skin about Trike riders. Sorry about my anger that I passed along!

No problem brother. It sure did seem like a strange posting. Now I understand. I do not go on that other forum anymore just because of all the negative postings on almost any subject. I just enjoy the positive and friendly atmosphere on this forum. NUFF SAID

I'm a newbe to this site & so far I like IT!!!! I have a 99 Yamaha Venture I triked out 2 years ago with a Triwing Kit. NOT because I was 57 but because I WANTED to! I ride with all kinds of Bikes & not one of them has said anything about riding a 3-wheeler except sure looks nice & must be nice to have "Money." I live in Michigan so my riding time is between 35*& Spring.

Hey there, imatriker2, and welcome to TrikeTalk! You'll have fun with this nutty group, I know. We have a number of great members from Michigan. Check out the "Just A Triker Group" threads for some of their plans and get-togethers.

I got a lot of grief from many of my riding buddies when I told them i was going to trike my Ultra; "When I get that old I'll park it", "When I need training wheels I'll sell it"!! I had to hear that garbage until they finally saw the Trike and rode with it. The comments I get now are: "Damn, that thing is beautiful"!! "That sucker will run won't it"!!...and my favorite.."I never would have believed you can keep up in the cuirves"!! I tell them just be glad I wasn't in front 'cause I really don't think YOU can keep up!!! I'm 65 years old and as I've said here before, I'm more than able to ride about anything on two wheels...but this Trike adds a feeling of stability and safety that I've never experienced on two wheels, especially with Betty aboard, and I like it. It's still a motorcycle and will do anything, and more, than a two wheeler.....except fall over!!!!

I just had a guy at the store come up to me and say . I want to ride your trike this coming spring to see what it is like. I said to him I never rode a full dress Harley any great distance so it would be a good trade. WELLLLLL I don't know about that he said. They are big machines . And I said if you never rode a trike I don't think I want you practicing on mine .:D

Funny you mention a unicycle! Here's a photo of one of our club members on one.

Age is just a number Iv been on 3 for 5 years and have had many conversations with all different kinds of people young and old but the one I like the most is "Im not ready for a trike " LOL like you have to be on social security to ride one .If someone asks me why I ride a trike I smile and say cause i can :) Im 50 now and will never go back to 2 wheels unles my front end is off the ground :D

I was in my early 20s when I first rode a HD Trike chopper...:D Some years later before I was blessed with owning one!! My daughter who is the co-pilot on my profile pic, is 19 and in the process of purchasing a shop built Harley Ultraclassic trike....so age has little to do with it....just good taste and common sense!!!!:blush:
