What did you do to your Trike this week?

Rode yesterday. Too hot 87 deg. Today too cold 55. And it may rain any time soon. Honey is 30 miles south and is is pouring .

87 F, give me a break..I think we have seen close to 80 F once this year, maybe twice if we were lucky...
I want summer to come soon to NH..before the summer is over..June 22, days start to get shorter...and winter is on the way!

Hey Calgary, nice new jack and stands. I see you use Rotella oil in your Wing. What brand of filter do you use?
Wow, you have the whole front end off, what are you doing, more than an oil change?
Do you use a piece of wood or pad between your jack and motor?
Boy, you have lots of room to work, mine is small and cramped compare to you!
Good luck.

Rosy
I've used Rotella T for a long time, but when they had a labelling issue I switched to Honda Synthetic - also use Honda filters - shop through Honda Direct and WingStuff. I was taking my front wheel off to change my OEM tire to a BT45 - a big improvement. I keep squares of 3/4 inch plywood around to put between my jack, motor etc.

The garage in AZ is much less cluttered than the Calgary garage where I have been hoarding priceless odds n' sods for 30 years. Please don't ask what the odds n' sods are, but they take up a lot of room.

I'm inviting my sons over and have them take whatever they want - the rest may have to go in the garbage! :) :) :) :)

"What did You do to Your Trike this week...???".....

Since, at the moment, I don't own another one, I've ridden three Friends Trikes this month......Really, Really enjoyed the Champion/Sportster 1200 Trike.....I was extremely impressed with the handling.....ThumbUp...Mitzie loves the looks of it.....;)

Hey, skuuter, do you do your own work on your scooters? If you do maybe other people would like to hear about the work, in case they own one.
Was the trike a solid axle type or IRS?

Rosy

I see Goldrush is putting a new front tire on. May I ask how are the people who have put new front tires on lately doing with mileage, cupping, or general wear?
I have 9,000 miles on my Micheline Pilot Activ and they look brand new. Rear tire, mounted backwards, and balanced with ceramic beads.
Let us know.

Yeah, I do all of my work, unless it's a warranty deal. I've posted several threads over the years about mounting handlebar risers, pegs, oil changes, GPS mounting, racks, Raked Tree mounting, all with Pics, etc., etc. ....these Threads stay up for a while, then drift off. Some I kept "bumped" for a while. We had a Motor Trike IRS 1800 Gold Wing, a Solid Axle Motor Trike Honda 750 Aero, and a Solid Axle Motor Trike Honda VTX 1300.......right now with only owning 2-wheel Motorcycles and Scooters, not much interest or reason to post work/maintenance threads.....another Trike is coming "eventually", just "probably not" right now.......with me, You never know though......the FOR SALE/WTB Forum has two "of interest to me and Mitzie" Trikes in it right now.....;):D

I need some advise. I have a set of passenger floor boards that are starting to peel. The chrome is starting to peel away from the metal, does any know if I can have these floor boards re chromed or just bite the bullet and buy new ones.
They are expensive at about $279 for the set.
Thanks.

Back in April I put in an MP3 in my trike. All went well, but I have a question to others who have installed the MP3 player in and used the program to down load music to an SD card so it will play using the Honda CD program.
I used the random aspect of the program to down load the music on the SD card, but the SD card is playing songs which were played before. Apparently the program did not used all the music available but went back and loaded music which was loaded before.
Question, has anyone else come across this problem when they downloaded music to their SD card? Or do I need to redo my SD card?
Thanks for your help.

Revamped a clutch cable guide. The clutch is smooth as butter now, and the new part should prevent premature wear of the cable and a real PITA roadside repair. Time will tell...

Finished up the new seat for my wife. She has back problems and needed a smoother ride, so I designed her a "bobber" style rear seat on 2 shocks of its own. She has been out twice with me and is not hurting at all. Mission Accomplished !!!!

Great job on the seat, rims, and tires! WOW, glad wife can ride with you without pain, nothing worse than riding with discomfort.
Did you ceramic bead the rear tires for balance? What pressures are you running the rears?
Again, great job! Thank you very much for the pictures, before and after!
Now to ride into the sunset!

Rosy

Thanks Rosy. It was a fun project, and the results were worth it. As for the rear tires. ..the rims are car rims 15X8 so I had them balanced at the local speed shop. Internal stick-on weights. I've never heard of balancing with beads, I'll look into that, thanks. I'm running 23 lbs on the left and 26 on the right. The new ride is like a different trike. Ride safe.

I finally installed clear lens protectors over my LED cowl lights.

Those lights were too damn expensive to take the chance that a road rock would crack them (which probably would've happened given enough time)

Went to the repair shop to see my trike yesterday. It was totally taken apart. No front end at all, no dash or windshield, just a bunch of cables and wires. Looked kinda like Data with his head taken off. :AGGHH:

HOWEVER, my blood was still all over the bike. :xzqxz:

Found two more items that need to be replaced. The triple tree was bent at the threads. The right side radiator was damaged.
I should get it back in about two weeks. We'll see.

Rmc51, how did the covers fit? Stick on or where they snap ons? Got pictures?
03VolusiaTrike, boy, you hit it with back problem solver! My wife has back problems also, but we put a gel seat from Wally World and it cured the problem, also have 1/2 foam insert in case we go on a long trip like to Washington DC to change the pressure points on her back. It takes 12 hours to get there. Also, use a sheep skin "rug" to reduce hardness of the original Wing seat.
MDGeorge, how are you doing? Get your stitches out yet? I bet you were some sore later on! Glad to hear you are OK, and your trike is on the way to being fixed.

Rosy

MDGeorge, what, the head is not suppose to feel numb, well, I'll be! LOL
Rmrc51, don't blame you for putting the one on that doesn't require you removing the Tupperware! To me that's a winter project.
I have a winter project already in the works, need to put on the brace between the frame and the lower fairing. Stupid me, forgot all about it last winter, till I went in to get me tool bag this spring and found the brace, Oh ........!
Oh well, it's not for sissies, getting old!

Rosy

Big Denny, when you get your Trigg Kit, please take pictures and post them if you can. I would love to see what they look like on your bike.
Walt M, also take pictures so we can see what it looks like.
Thanks Guys!

Handlebar risers, OK, who had a set put on? I know Gold Rush, Missouri Charley did.
General opinion is that are great, but has anyone put a set on and didn't like them, if so, why?
Non mechanics like myself need to have the shop put them on, and I am sure it will take a couple of hours to do. So, that will bring the cost into the $300 range, not cheap, so need to find out both sides of the question, good or bad.
Also, I need an opinion on front speaker for the 02 GL 1800, mine are good, but will Polk speakers make a big difference in the sound quality? At 65 mph, will you really notice the sound quality?
Thought would be, if I have the risers put on, the speakers will be expose, so it will make the installation of speakers easier and a little cheaper to put on.
Other question on Polk speakers, are they direct replacements or do we need to modify the installation in any way?
Thanks for your input!

Rode a Black California Side Car/Gold Wing 1800 Trike this morning...no idea who the Owners were......I must have a "trusting looking face"......

Skuuter, did you noticed if the Trike had risers?
Sure, you can be trusted, why not, you know all the good places to eat! LOL

Bought it. Just bought Rich's LazyAce's stratoliner with california side car
trike kit. Had the handlebars brought down a bit - ordered a new
front tire and trying to decide what type of art am wanting on it.

It's great as far as handling and going down the road - can't wait
to go on the ride tomorrow. :pepper:

Oh WOW, great! Please post pictures so we can all see your new ride!
Boy, tomorrow couldn't come fast enough for you! LOL

Not doing well today. Went to bike week and my GL 1800 died on the way to Wiers Beach. Bought a new battery, but didn't help. Went to Meridith Harley and they put it on the charger and tested the charging system, not good. Charging system not charging the battery. Had it towed to Laconia to see what's wrong. They were closed, so the tow person will keep it in his trailer till tomorrow morning when he goes over to drop the trike off. He will tell them that it is not charging. Hopefully they will get right on it to determine what's wrong.
Rented a Harley Trike to get home and go back up tomorrow with Janice driving a car and return the Harley trike to Meridith, then to Laconia to see what the prognosis is on the trike.
Hope it is something simple, but that's not my luck!
Keep you posted!
