What did you do to your Trike this week?

Lots to do next week, but one of the first things will be to give the trike a bath.
Also, need to figure out where there are some flat spots on the Hannigan body to put a couple of LED lights. I will do what Missouri Charley did on his "old" trike and put a couple of orange LEDs on the aqua shields up front.
I believe the rear is going to be a little bit more difficult because I need at least 6" of flat spot for the lights.
We will check it out while I am washing her down.
Hope your projects are coming along very well, if you are working on your trike.

Installed a Mini Beast MB4 Horn, is as loud as advertised.

Stumpe
WOW, just watched the youtube video of the horn, before and after. If they can't hear that horn, they are deaf!
I think even a semi will be able to hear you coming!

Installed and tested home built baffles.Runs great, now I can hear myself think.Slightly louder than stock but soo much quieter than the V&H baffles. With the Frankenstein kit can't use stock pipes on a Sportster. Will put some miles on her to let the ECM relearn.Probably my imagination, but seems to have better low end torque with the more restrictive baffles.

Isn't that why the pros tune their exhaust to their machines to get the extra HP out of them.
I assume you could be correct, but the best way to tell is put it on a Dyno.
A little quieter helps when you travel down neighborhood streets, people won't turn and give you the evil eye! LOL

What did you use for home built baffles? My wife's 2006 sportster frankenstien trike needs something to quiet it a bit. Thanks for any info. larry

I was looking at HD baffles on the Internet, am I assuming you can change the noise level by changing the wrapping on the baffle? Or do you need to change the whole baffle?
Rookie here on baffles, so please explain if I am wrong.
Thanks,

Rosy

This weekend took the Gl/Champion to the mountains did lots of twisties rode thru a few rain showers , ate at a biker bar in Lake lure (drank Tea) At around 9 PM after a hot shower crawled into bed and fell asleep like a baby ! So that's what I did to my Trike (add miles) :D
Bill

Great Bill, now does she need a wash from the showers, or did you wash her Bedford you took your shower.

I used 1" steel tubing, welded a 2" washer(id of pipe where stock baffle sits)to front of tubing. Enlarged washer hole to match tubing.Drilled holes around tubing, wrapped 2 layers of f/g cloth, not mat, then rolled a thin layer of f/g insulation under the remaining 5' of cloth.Think of a jellyroll.Started on end and wrapped stainless wire to other end and back to start and tied off.Drilled a hole where stock baffle is secured through both sides of pipe and screwed in place.By running the screw through both sides, the screw helps to disrupt the exhaust flow, like the old lollipop trick for drag pipes. The amount of and size of holes and the amount of f/g will determine the sound level. You don't have to remove the pipes, the heat shields can be finagled to access the baffle screws.V&H makes what they call quiet baffles, but after investigating they are not that quiet in IMO.Rosey,if the Harley baffles don't have a step where you can wrap them, they won't fit back in the pipes. That's why I didn't wrap the stock baffles.

Changed head light bulbs, full service (oil and filter change, trike service, lube drive shaft), change front valve stem), wash and wax as I get ready to join the Run for the Wall group in Dallas.

Bayoudave, here is where my wife helps me work on the trike. My hams (sorry kwputt) are too big to fit into the little space to change the headlight bulb, so she does it for me. She also has a "straight eye", so she puts on the decals and helps when I add things to the trike. If it was left to me, everything would be crooked or slanted. LOL

cjmitch, please explain the plastic dip for the wheels. Is it a treatment to prevent rusting, or is it a treatment to color the wheels?
Can somebody tell me why a six wire plug is needed of a small motorcycle cargo trailer, or is it a motorcycle trailer that hauls the trike, with electric breaks?
Thanks for your input.

cjmitch, post pictures on before and after, would like to see them.
You can change colors as many times as you want, is this correct? That would be great. Just like having new wheels every year!
Question, is there a place who does this process, in case you don't want to tackle it? Can you ship the wheels to them, let's say during the winter and they will do the work?
Thanks for sharing cjmitch!

Rosy

Thanks Mick, very interesting.
Took a ride this weekend and parked trike for a while, guess what, black trike is now yellow with pollen, so, need to take trike out of cellar and wash. Also, plenty of bugs on windshield. Got home late, so we will get to it as soon as the chores are done.

Installed all my bling items I bought over the winter, insured it, went for my first 2 rides of the year. Short rides, but the weather's not co-operating very well.

Now just need to find time and strength to install my Barnett clutch and Hayden chain tensioner.

Maybe you will find some kind "neighbor" to give you a hand putting your new items on. You never know who will read this and offer to come over and help. Would do, but it would be one hell of a ride for a few hours of work, don't you think! LOL
Hope all goes well and you get everything on, take pictures off your work and share it with us. You may find a short cut to fitting the items on, so it will help the next guy doing the work. Or just like me, if I have pictures of how to do a job, I may try it myself.
Thanks

Will do!!!

Yes you can change colors anytime, just peel the rubberized coloring right off. no sanding, priming or anything, just clean them.

tomg, down in a Florida that's a never ending story for a few weeks, correct? We have our bugs here, but not as bad from what I've heard like Florida.
What do you use to clean the bugs off? Mild soap and water, or just a good car water type cleaner?
We will speak more when I see you at the NETT Rally this August.
See you soon!

prowler,
Never seen a BMW apart, please take pictures of your work so we can see. Wow, I believe it is going to take you most of the day, but could be wrong. It took the shop over 3 hours just to change the fluids on my wing.
Good luck, and remember, no extra parts when you get finished! LOL

It is terrible twice a year with some years without a lot of rain in May and Sept being better (less bugs). I keep a good amount of wax and use soap & water. Some people use drier sheets, but then you still need to clean up after that !

I use warm water and Dawn. Been doing it for 40 years, never failed me.

Hey Bruce, in NH, you have to take the studded tires off by April, not in NY! LOL
OK, I give up, what tires did you run when you went to Daytona?
Tell Deb I owe her from last year. I have to take her for a ride as you did Janice! Elephants never forget!
Bugs...bugs...and more bugs! Just washed the Soul and spent a lot of time scrubbing bugs off from our trip to Illinois. They stick like tar!

I had the smaller tires and wheels on it last summer Rosy -- I had the smaller tires on it when I was in florida this winter. I can't get it in my trailer with the big boys on it.
