What Did You Do To Your Freewheeler Today?

I installed a Custom Dynamics luggage rack LED light bar. Should have been a simple install but after installing (followed directions to the letter) and plugging the connectors together the light didn't work. I noticed that the wiring pigtail that plugs into the rear lights harness on the Freewheeler had a red / black / blue wire going into the connector and the wire pigtail from the light had a red / black /yellow wire. The wires from the light bar are loose and not snapped into the JAE half connector so you can feed the wires through the luggage rack rail and into the trunk. So, after running the wires into the trunk and through the plastic plug in the trunk and into the space under the seat I snapped the wires into the connector plug half, connected it to the wiring harness connector half and turned on the ignition....no light, running or braking. Called tech support and they said "you must have the wires hooked up wrong". I asked, why is there a red / black / blue on one side of the connector and red / black / yellow on the other side when the instructions says to match up the wire colors? I don't know he said. I will pull one from stock and check and call you back. While waiting I check wire to wire hook-up with my test light and then hooked wires direct to battery....everything worked correctly. Tech support called back and said their wire colors were the same as what I had and that I had connected them up correctly. I messed with the connector, unplugged the individual wires several times and re-seated them but could not get the light to work with the supplied JAE connectors. Cut the JAE connectors off and used individual wire to wire connectors...light works perfectly.

Sorry for the long post but pretty aggravating. Should have been a 30 - 45 minute project instead of 2 hours. Never had this problem before with Custom Dynamics products but in the end it worked out.

I was looking at the instructions for that last night & the instructions under the Freewheeler looked like they were for a TriGlide. I was then looking at getting their night rider light and making my own bracket & mounting it under the luggage rack.

That's what I thought when reading the instructions that came with the light bar too. When I ordered it I ordered the one that was specified for the luggage rack part number for the Freewheeler. I went through my file and checked the part number on the packing list I had for the luggage rack. It fit perfectly and the wiring harness plugs matched the freewheeler harness. The only problem I had was the JAE connector not working. Once I replace it with individual bullet wire connectors everything worked fine.

Had the stage 1 completed with the SEPRT. I was doing it myself and apparently the download for the software was corrupted. took it to HD to make sure the data cable and tuner were ok. They just did the flash for me. Free. Gonna finish getting the first 500 miles on it today. Dump the piss they call tranny gear oil out. Switch it with Bel-Ray.

New wires /plugs

Installed DK Customs 409 PRO RACE Black Spark Plug Wires - Touring/Trike Models and stock hd 6R12 plugs on 15 Freewheeler. Short ride, very noticeable improvement in throttle response and power. DK wires are almost three times thickness of stock hd wires.

Tip of the hat to Jack and Michael for the tips and advise, made the job a lot easier. Maybe next time I'll try it without a full 6 gallon fuel tank and being to bull headed to take the time to drain it.

That's what I did. I used 3/4" aluminum angle from TSC. Cut, shape, drill and polish. It looks great and was an easy job.

Glad you got it done. Next time, if you want to be really amazed, try Redline Shockproof in the tranny. It gives fantastic transmission performance/operation.

I don't know if the 114 M8 is the same as my 2017 107, but in the 1st 1,000 miles, mine burned a quart of engine oil. Mine has not burned any since then. It's just something to watch the 1st few miles.

RKplus, exactly which light did you use? Vendor, model & length? Thanks. Also, who is TSC?

I used Custom Dynamics Knight Riderz, part# 2040-0646 LB01. It is dual intensity, non sequential and comes in two lengths. I used the 4 1/2" size. TSC is Tractor Supply Co. The cable was long enough. I used vacuum hose for conduit in the trunk and posi-taps for my connections.

Thanks. Heard good things about the Shockproof. Always had good luck with the Bel-Ray. if this dont donthe trick. I'll switch it out. I have the oild ready for Tuesday night to do the first service. I'll do it a couple hundred miles early. Leaving on a trip Wednesday and by the time I get home I'd be 500 over.

My oil level is about a quarter of a quart low. Which is fine. I run my bikes a half quart low on purpose.

Bel-Ray is very good fluid, IMO Redline is that much better:clapping:

Thanks, I do way too much research & planning as I have too much time on my hands with our terrible weather the past few months. I did a quick measurement & it looks like the longer, 7" model would fit. I'm planning on the Posi-Taps also & will order from them as I have not found them around here, yet.

I just ordered a new front tire.:clapping::cool:

I was looking at Custom Dynamic Night Rider lights for the rear of the FW, I have been thinking about more light in back for over a year, but got side tracked.

I called my local Cycle Gear store to ask a shipping question & they directed me to the mother ship.

I called because I wanted to have the tire shipped to the house vise the store as it may be a few months before I switch it out & they were very nice customer service, answered all my questions. I started chatting with the rep. as I often do, mentioning I just bought a modular helmet from the store during a sale & love it & he said he had the same helmet,

then he said I'm going to add a $10 store credit to your account for being a loyal customer. Thanks a lot.

I just ordered a Avon Cobra Chrome front tire for the Freewheeler, free shipping to my house. For $25, my local store will mount it with lifetime balance, if needed, if you carry the wheel in. I can do that. I asked if there was any time limit on that & he said no. I may wait till spring. I have a 2,300 mile trip to the 4 Corners Motorcycle Rally in Durango, Colorado over Labor day. After it arrives, I will send in for Avon's $20 rebate.

Still got to order the light.:D My bedroom is starting to look like a bike garage, with filters, oil, cleaning products & soon, a tire.

I went for a short ride (35-40 miles) to visit my chosen dealer, Doc's HD. They were having a 1st. Responders/Military Appreciation day event. Food & band playing with a stereo contest event later.

I was only there about an hour, as it's getting pretty toasty outside with high humidity.:Dorag:

Put another 140 on today. Took my son who's a new rider. He bought my wifes Street 500 when she got her Freewheeler. He did great. I'll keep him with me a few more times before I am comfortable with him just going. He works 2 miles from home. He'll take it there. We stopped half way in and heard thunder and headed north away from it. Heading back west I thought we skirted it. Looked food. We were literally 100 yards from the torrential rain to our left. A slight bend in the road put us right in it. 500 yards. Right turn 100 yard. No rain. Lol. But we were soaked and he got christened. so that's twice in the 7 days I've owned it it needed a complete bath. I'm at 640 now.

Planned in doing a short 100 or so mile ride for breakfast. ended up being a little over 300. Im.at 952 now. I'll do my 1000 mile service tomorrow night. Only 30 miles of that 300+ was highway. The rest was country road 2 lanes. Bike is trashed again. Storm passed through just before we got into Mesopotamia and the was a mess. Horse shit and mud. This is 3 times in less than a week I need a bucket to clean it.

I got a 70 mile ride in the visit my grandkids for a couple hours. It's much cooler today in the LOU with mid 80's. Very nice! I'm sure your tired of hearing it, but yes, my FW ran great!:Dorag:

Did my 1000 mile service. Amsoil in the motor and primary. did the Tranny with Bel-Ray 75-140 couple days ago. Switched to a K&N filter. Ran a wire to charge my cellphone on the bars. New Ciro phone mount will be delivered tonight. Then I'll he ready for Gettysburg bike week. Leaving Wednesday morning.

I'm waiting for my new Avon Cobra Chrome front tire to be delivered & I'm not installing it for awhile, so I should not be this excited, but I feel like a little kid on Xmas morning.:D

UPDATE: It's here, it's here. I feel like I just got my 1st Red Rider BB rifle.

Added another 600 miles. Left Northeast Ohio at 2am. Rode to Hatboro Pa to meet friends then rode to Gettysburg for bike week. At 1766 miles in 10 days.

I got a 70 mile ride in late this afternoon/evening. It was beautiful here today 85° & low humidity.

We had a family dinner for my youngest sons birthday.:)

Bitubo Shocks

I ordered my Bitubo shocks from DK Customs on Tuesday at noon, received them this morning. The $525 price stretched my budget a little but I now believe they were worth every penny. I installed them and rode about 100 miles today. They are so much smoother on every road surface I encountered. On sweeping curves, even with dips, they made the handling much more predictable. I couldn't be more pleased. After a break in period, more testing and some two up riding, I will let all y'all know more about them. BTW, in Texas, y'all is singular and all y'all is plural.

Rode

Evening ride with wife for dinner. Got a chance to try new plugs and wires on a 96 mile ride, mostly two lane country roads. Noticeable difference in throttle response and quickness. Also noticed several months ago after installing ebs system that i don t have engine pinging even pulling five mile long, 10% grade, in 87° temperature at 65 miles per hour.

Good to here. I probably missed it, but what wires did you get?

Gettysburg

7 hour ride - 245 miles round trip - average temp 90°. Still a great ride with my wife today to Gettysburg bike rally. Didn't do much in town, too hot and TOO CROWDED. Gettysburg HD had a great day t shirt sales. Freewheeler ran fantastic, still impressed even with the 103 and two plugs.
