This morning I left on a three day ride with some of my regular riding friends from Dallas to Oklahoma City. I got about 50 miles from my home and stopped to gas up. I almost immediately smelled what I thought was coolant but turned out to be brake fluid. The lower brake line was touching the exhaust and had burned through and leaked everytime I pressed the rear brake pedal. There was about 1/2inch of fluid in the cylinder. I can't figure out how it managed to be touching but I suspect there is a guide of some kind that is missing and the slight slack in the brake line managed to contact the exhaust. It is about 6 inches from the lower master cylinder. I called 5 dealerships in Dallas but no one had the part. The front brakes work but I didn't go on the trip. I was told by a dealer that the line and labor was about $400.00. It is covered under warranty. Just thought it might be something you should check. Better to be discovered close to home than on a long stretch of highway......ride safe

That is a bummer you were not able to go on your trip. Very sorry to hear.

I just went and looked at mine. There are two frame/hose clips going from the reservoir down to the master cylinder. One of the clips is about 4 inches above the master cylinder. If it was to go missing, I see how it would be very easy for a hose to come in contact with the exhaust.

Thank you for the heads-up. I think I am going to safety wire those frame clips.

What year is your Trike Alan? This almost sounds like a recall issue. I'm going to check mine although I won't see it for 2 weeks when I get back to WI. Thanks for sharing.

This is/was a recall issue.. they use a wire tire to pull it next to the frame.

I'm just crazy enough to have gone on into Oklahoma and stopped at the first dealer saying I just started my vacation and this happened. But I'm talking from a bike rider. Trikes is a whole other animal. You really do need them rear brakes.
