VTX Motortrike conversion

Greetings, all. Been riding motorcycles as a re-entry rider for about 12 years, but I'm thinking about shifting to a trike and doing a bit of shopping for my first trike. I just moved to the NE Texas area. I don't anticipate doing a lot of long distance touring, but who knows...that could change. This is a very scenic area with lots of country roads to explore. I'm 5'11, 275 and ride solo.

One of the local dealers has a VTX 1300 Motortrike conversion with about 17K on it.

Just looking for some general feedback about the bike, the conversion, whether that would be an appropriate entry-level trike and any other information you'd care to impart to a newbie triker. I was also thinking about taking a run down to Motortrike in Troup, TX and seeing what they might have say.

Thanks in advance for all responses!

Don't get in a hurry, a lot of good information here. Be sure to test ride various trike kits and talk to other trikers. That way you sure be ready for the ride season next spring.

Good advice.

I went and looked at it. Looks kinda cobbled together and not well maintained, so I passed.

Another will come along one day. Kinda leaning towards a GL1800 conversion, but if the right VTX came along, I'd give it a look. I like simpler...

Facebook has several 1800 VTX trikes for sale, in the Houston area.

The 1300 VTX was the only turn key conversion that Motor Trike ever offered. I toured the factory in Troup, in 1998. We were looking for a small trike for my wife, she could never make up her mind. She continued to ride on the rear with me,and still does. The 1300 listed for 16,999, out the door back then.

Along with the VTX 1300, they also made a turn key Honda Shadow 750 that sold pretty well.

I own a 2006 VTX 1800 Motortrike conversion. LOVE the look, has a 'Terminator' style to it. Very classic looking. I get a LOT of compliments on it.

That being said, I miss the silky smooth 'turbine' feel of the Goldwing 6 motor. (My last 'trike' was '95 goldwing with a Daytona 2+2 sidecar) But I dont care for the 'spaceship' look of the goldwing trikes I have seen. I really like the Valkyrie's look, especially as a trike, and its perceived smoothness. Never have ridden one.
