Hello I've been looking on E-bay for a Valkyrie that I can trike. My question is, are there any better years for triking between 1997-2003. I think I prefer the Interstate, but my purchase of a Valkyrie will mainly depend on the price. Are any year Valkyrie between these years better mechanically? Any pros or cons? Thank you for any and all information.

Welcome to the forum,
I have a 99 Valk I/S that has a CSC converson. I prefer the I/S due to the available am/fm/intercom/MP3/cb combination that they come with. I have seen a few of the std and tourer's triked and they do look great. There are number coming up for sale now due to the end of the riding season. Good luck on finding one you like.. You will like the Valk when it gets triked.

Thank you Gabby- Do you know if there is any year that had problems more than others?Ray

i have a 99 standard triked with a roadsmith kit (excellent kit) i had an 03, and my brother has a 97. i can't see 50 cents worth of difference in any of them. still pound for pound the best on wheels.

The only difference I know is that the front wheel bearings are a bit larger on the 98's and up. How-ever, the 97 supposedly has, or many feel that it has more horsepower. Go to the following site below and you'll learn everything you need to know about the Valkyrie. It is, with out a doubt,, one hell of a bike!! ThumbUp

I agree with everything that has already been said, Love my 99 I/S with a Roadsmith kit, one thing I would like to add, I first went with the 4.5 degree rake, rode one year and changed to the 6 degree, much, much better.

I have two Tourers (two-wheelers) in the garage as I type, one a '97 and other a '98. The only difference that I am aware of between the different years is the '97 has smaller wheel bearings and more HP due to, supposedly, different cams. But the cam part #s are now shown to be the same for all years, so who knows. But my '97 is quicker than the '98. The Tourer is the same as the Standard except for a windshield and bags. The Tourers generally cost more than the Standards and that might not be worth the extra cost. In any case, all the parts removed during a conversion can be sold for a tidy sum allowing you to recoup the extra cost plus some. For distance riding the Interstate would be a better bike to trike. For point of reference, I just sold the '98 for $5700 with 19K miles.

Good luck!

the 97 does have smaller front bearings, some say it was a problem, my brother has 167,000 on his 97 and they ain't fell out yet.

the 97 is a bit faster due to lighter springs in the carbs, the interstate also has them i understand.

certainly not enough to make one not buy a 97 if it were clean. and remember low miles don't mean good bike. leaving a valk sit for long pereiods of time causes all kinds of jetting problems and rotting rubber. can be a pia to find and repair.
