Tri Glide air ride kit

09-16 H-D TRI-GLIDE TRIKE REAR AIR RIDE KIT PRE WIRED & PLUMBED 4.6" TRAVEL. Has anyone installed air rides on their tri glide? where did you install the compressor? was it hard to install? was the ride the same or better?

I installed the Legend Air Ride. The compressor is on a bracket that attaches between the lower frame tubes under the engine. Cost was about $1,600 and made very little difference in ride quality. With a solid rear axle you will have a difficult time improving the ride.

Our Boss Hoss trike was a solid axle and rode like a dump truck with the stock Carrera coilovers. It was so bad,we honestly were going to sell the trike. Arnott Air Ride was offering a significant discount at an event in TN so we decided to give it a try. Hands down,it was the best money we ever spent on it,,night & day difference in ride quality. In the six years after installation,it also never gave us an ounce of trouble.

I don't know what model number Progressive Suspension rear shocks are on our Hannigan IRS but they ride better than anything I've ever been on. But,just because a trike has a solid axle, doesn't mean it can't ride nicely. It can with the right components.

FWIW,Boss Hoss offered the Legend air ride as an $1,800 option on their trikes, for a couple of years. To put it bluntly,it was a disaster. Everyone that ordered it,hated it and Boss Hoss has since replaced the Legend system with an air shock system from Monroe that works ten times better. They ended up replacing almost all of the Legend systems, under warranty.

It was quite a fiasco.

One thing to keep in mind is the air systems for the Tri Glide doesn't automatically adjust anything. You still have to find the best pressure for your load & ride preferences.
But that being said, the compressor does give you the ability to adjust the pressure on the fly or at least without having to open up the side cover. Also a gauge to monitor the pressure.
What I found was the Harley air shocks aren't a real shock when you compare them to all the rest on the market. They might support the weight, but when you hit a bump they just bottom out way too easy !
I changed to the Progressive 416 air shocks so I could keep the air portion of the suspension. Some have changed to non air. The 416's are like night & day difference from stock. They actually have a good shock in them ! Also I dropped 18# on the pressure.
But,,, I don't like the compressor to be mounted under the trike either. The package DK Customs sells comes in a housing to mount in the trunk. Quite a small package.
