Just thought I would pass this along. Rode my Trike a while back and noticed I could smell oil burning. Checked Trike and did not see a leak so I chalked It up to something at the location where I had parked. Went to Thunder Beach and back with no oil smell. Took Trike out for short ride and when I parked smoke was coming up from exhaust under the 6 speed Tans. cover. Called dealer and asked If they had any cover gasket leaks? They said no but they have had to remove the two bolts that attach the exhaust bracket under the cover and clean them apply lock-tight and re-torque. You guessed it mine were finger tight. It's not an easy job on an 09 Ultra/California Sidecar. So If you smell oil burning and can't figure out where it's coming from check these bolts!

I had transmission bolts, oil pan bolts, and oil cooler manifold bolts all come loose and bike was leaking oil quit a bit. It took three trips to dealer before they got the leaking stopped. At least the bottom of the bike will not rust, :) and my right boot is oiled very well.

I was going over some old postings here after remembering something I read here about leaks. Well, I found this post and I believe that was the problem here too! Just recently noticed a oil burning smell and did not know what it was. After reading this post... I have my trike up on rolling jack stands to do a rake on the forks, so I checked the bolts under the transmission! Low and behold they were loose as noted. Thank you for your helpful posting and maybe some else will check theirs and tighten those bolts up!

I had the same prob on my '11 TG at about 3,000 miles... The oil smell...took in to the dealer,,they found the tranny bolts were loose and also found a bulletin instucting them to tighten 'em with a higher torque number than normal. They did that and it fixed it..They also replaced the gasket... no charge of course... no problems since
