What are my best options?

I can foresee the wind being an issue. Add a back up? Are change out completely?

Just installed the HD third brake/tail light, when I took the tether off, I can see a lot of damage happen if it ever brakes..

Thanks........

I have used this brace on two previous tour pacs with great success. I'll be buying one for the trike before long.

Thats what I put on mine. Works great has four bolts top and bottom, sandwiches the wall between the pieces of the bracket. Making it even stronger... Takes a lot of the wobble out of the lid too... Doesn't flop all the way open either, you dont have to catch it if you have a bag on the lid...

I had this brace on my 2012 CVO Ultra and really liked it. Like you I think I'm going to get one for the TG. I didn't trust the retractable tether on the 2012 as it was the older style and about as thick as light duty fishing line. I think the newer ribbon style retractable tethers are more sturdy - at least they look more sturdy to me. I undertand the idea of the backup tether but I like the fact that the backups obviously are not retractable. The metal brace along with the oem tether should be A-OK.

Question on the E-Glide goodies arm- Do the mounting screws go through the Tour Pack itself, or just through the liner?

Thanks

They go through the tour-pak but you can remove the liner prior to install so the screws do no have to go through the liner. My 2012 CVO had both a bottom and a lid liner which I removed prior to install of the Ultra Brace and then put the liners back in.

Also for a more 'factory' look I used rivets vs the screws. Much easier and a cleaner look imo. That is what I plan to do when I get the one I just now ordered for my 2018 TG.

I really like this setup when i saw it a couple of years ago, but for $80 i said no thanks. I did like the idea of it holding the lid in the upright position so the wind can't blow it closed though. Used some paracord to make a backup.

I received my Ultra Brace today and plan on installing it tomorrow. I hear 'ya that it is a bit pricey but it works great, holds the lid open in a locked position and I don't have to use a backup as the oem retractable tether is the back up to the Ultra Brace. But I've never heard of anyone having the Ultra Brace fail. It is a quality product. Each to his / her own preferences but to me this is one of those 'must have' items - once you've had it you don't want to do without it.
