Wednesday afternoon a Tornado, biggest in this area in more than 25 years, passed 8 miles southeast of the shop.

It was a monster...ran on the ground for pretty much 135 miles.

All the DK Team and their families are ok. No one lost their homes, some are still without electricity. Some could not get home Wednesday night, too many trees and downed power lines blocking the roads. Everybody did get back home the next day.

Here's the path it took-

Mary and I live about 10 miles northwest of the shop, about 18 miles from the closest the Tornado was from us. Even being that far we still heard it, it was like a loud train...and that was 18 miles away from us!

Thursday Mary and I took a ride on the Softail (she did not want to ride on the Tri-Glide with no back rest- lol). We did a 150 mile loop, checking out where the tornado crossed 4 different roads.

Some roads were still closed because the power companies are working to restore electric service.

Here is what the side of the interstate used to look like...lots of trees along it-

This is what about an 500 yard section looks like now...trees are mostly gone.

After seeing what it did crossing the interstate, we zig-zagged on some back roads, looking at where it crossed the.

Here is Higdon Road, how it looks right before coming up on where it crossed.

Just a bit down the road, that used to be lined with trees...

We road over more than a few downed power lines-

We are on the 4 now. In the next picture you can see in the distance how thick the trees used to be. Up close, that is all that is left in the path of the tornado.

This is still on the 4, up close to Ashland. It was the only place we saw buildings destroyed.

Here we are, almost back home.

We are very thankful that the DK Family made it thru, and are all ok. However, there are many families hurting right now. If you have a moment, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Well if anything, good to hear your family and staff were not in the path. We only experienced a few small ones here in NY. Lots of wind sheer here, that levels the trees all in one height. Looks like ma nature took a chainsaw and left just 10 ft of trees in a straight line.

Glad to hear that you and your staff are all OK. Having severe weather in Texas right now. Hopefully there will be no tornados in our area. Stay safe everyone!

Kevin, good to hear. Thanks for sharing. The weather has been crazy every where. :AGGHH:

We are glad to hear all is well with extended Family. Yes, devastation is great, when tornadoes hit. Even in NH we have had out share of them. They make a path of destruction, where everything is gone for years to come.
Lives will change forever, for most of the people in its path.
NH Trikers send their best for a speedy recovery!

Thank God you are ok! My Sister and Brother in Law live in Ovilla,Tx. He is a deputy sheriff there. A tornado hit there last night. Missed his house but hit several houses starting 4 doors to his West. He is on a Rescue and Recovery mission in Desoto.

Glad you were missed. I will take hurricanes any time over tornados. At least I know they are coming. All will pitch in and get things moving again.

I have been in Dallas the past week. Last night tornadoes all around us. About 10 miles from where we are staying cars were blown off the overpass on I-35, 11 people were killed. Makes for a bad day. Jim

Glad you guys are safe. Praying for your neighbors. Christmas day here in SC was mid 70's.. HAs been every day. Along with the warm days we have had rain , so no riding. Be safe

Steve

So glad to hear everyone and their property is OK Kevin, some prayers going out for those not so fortunate.

Glad that you are ok.
Tornados are one of those things we could all do without.
My cousin in dallas recently, ie this year, moved to a larger
house because of his growing family.
Their old house was one of those flattened by a tornado that
went through his old neighborhood.

This afternoon I found out that the building we were trying to move to, earlier this year, got hit by the tornado!

Half of it is no longer there!

WOW!

No one was hurt. ThumbUp

I'm going to run down there and see what all we would have lost if we had moved in!

Kevin

Rode by the building we almost moved into a couple of months ago...

Most of the shop is gone. The big stand of pines behind the shop is gone.

Sobering sights we saw today.
