Wednesday afternoon a Tornado, biggest in this area in more than 25 years, passed 8 miles southeast of the shop.
It was a monster...ran on the ground for pretty much 135 miles.
All the DK Team and their families are ok. No one lost their homes, some are still without electricity. Some could not get home Wednesday night, too many trees and downed power lines blocking the roads. Everybody did get back home the next day.
Here's the path it took-
Mary and I live about 10 miles northwest of the shop, about 18 miles from the closest the Tornado was from us. Even being that far we still heard it, it was like a loud train...and that was 18 miles away from us!
Thursday Mary and I took a ride on the Softail (she did not want to ride on the Tri-Glide with no back rest- lol). We did a 150 mile loop, checking out where the tornado crossed 4 different roads.
Some roads were still closed because the power companies are working to restore electric service.
Here is what the side of the interstate used to look like...lots of trees along it-
This is what about an 500 yard section looks like now...trees are mostly gone.
After seeing what it did crossing the interstate, we zig-zagged on some back roads, looking at where it crossed the.
Here is Higdon Road, how it looks right before coming up on where it crossed.
Just a bit down the road, that used to be lined with trees...
We road over more than a few downed power lines-
We are on the 4 now. In the next picture you can see in the distance how thick the trees used to be. Up close, that is all that is left in the path of the tornado.
This is still on the 4, up close to Ashland. It was the only place we saw buildings destroyed.
Here we are, almost back home.
We are very thankful that the DK Family made it thru, and are all ok. However, there are many families hurting right now. If you have a moment, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
