Too old for trikes ? What's next ?

After writing lots of articles about Triking, I was just wondering what will come after we are too old and fragile for Trikes ? I think I have found the answer. " The Scooter Store and Hoveround." My neighbor has one from the scooter store and he is able to cruise the neighborhood. LOL. He is somewhere in the 80's and not too healthy. I think the one good thing is that the Trikes don't require much in the way of physical strength except when it comes to turning. In the future, I will make sure I only travel on roads that go straight and then I will use the reverse gear to make a K turn. LOL. I hope I never get that old.

I'd think that if you get to the point that you're unable to mount or maneuver a trike, you really shouldn't be on any three wheeler and definitely not on a two wheeler, even if it is a small scooter.

And about getting too old?! I always said that if I get to the point that I'm not self sufficient and have to depend on others to take care of me, then,,, it's time to check out! :NoJoke:

Sounds like a business opportunity to me. "Hire a Driver". When you feel the need to ride you just call 1-800-OLD&FREE and a certified/bonded trike driver shows up at your door, ducktapes you to the rear seat, and off you go.

When my Dad moved into independent living after my Mom passed he used one for getting around. The whole problem with them is it comes under "if you dont use it you lose it" syndrome. Dads legs went to heck in a hand basket quickly after buying the scooter. At their age if they dont use their legs and associated muscles they lose their muscle tone very quickly. I know if I cant slide onto a trike seat to ride ,its time to hang it up.

I have my eye on a motorized wheelchair-I will probably do a conversion involving my lawnmower motor and a titanium wheelchair! But in reality, when I get that old I just plain won't give a sh!t. I am training for that phase- some days getting dressed and going out in the real world wear me out-just sayin!:AGGHH:

I live in The Villages in central Florida and the main mode of transportion is golf carts. We have over 50,000 of them and many are like nothing you have ever seen before. This allows people that are unable to ride a bike or trike or no longer have a drivers license to get around as you don't need a license for a cart. Over 90 miles of roads, and tunnels which go under main roads are available. Some of the golf paths are hilly and twisty and lots of fun trying to take them full throttle. Mine is a gas powered Yamaha, gets 44 mpg and over 240 miles on a tank. I put over 4,000 miles a year on mine and am always in it when not on the trike.
