Signed the papers Friday to sell my practice - 35 1/2 years of playing in peoples mouths as a dentist. Sold it to a younger guy that still has the energy to play. My wife and I are worn out, burned out you might say. We'll work another coupla weeks until the new doc takes over.

Yeah, I know there's a lot of jokes, etc. and emotions when you are the one in the chair. Believe me, I've been there too. But there's a lot of emotions and stress on the doc's chair too! It is time to hang it up, gonna miss a lot of the patients, great folks, and a lot of fun times, too.

Talked with my staff to tell them I was retiring this afternoon after we were done for the day.

It was a very emotional meeting, tears all around. I couldn't keep from breaking up, this has been the best staff and group of employees that I've had in 35 years of practice.

We are going to treat them right, give them all their vacay, sick pay, prorated Xmas bonus for staying with us until the bitter end. Then we'll take them out to dinner the last day.

New doc will probably hire most of them. Any one that gets another job, we will give them a glowing recommendation.

They have been a great bunch of gals, fun to work with, (love nasty jokes! ThumbUp), and loyal to us without a doubt.

Probably what I'll miss the most after I am officially retired.

Congrats....I think. LOL. It is a tough decision to retire after all those years. We had the same dentist for 36 years and we hated it when he retired! Go and enjoy your retirement, you have earned it! Sounds like you are treating your employees right and that is great. You don't have to but it shows what a good person you are. That is why they were loyal to you. Enjoy your retirement!

Absolutely, Congrats on your retirement, or whatever you want it to be:clapping:
More time now to ride the trike. What's wrong with that?
All the best for you, going forward.ThumbUp

Congratulations on the leap into retirement. It is much easier to smile now instead of fixing all the other smiles you've repaired over the years. Enjoy and keep the bugs out of your teeth. :D

Congratulations on your new venture. The fact that your treating your staff so well is outstanding, you don't find that too often in corporate America anymore. Ride safe and enjoy every mile.

Congrats on your retirement.
The toughest part about retirment is letting go, gives you more time to ride but still hard to fill a 40 hr plus work week unless you have some good hobbies.

My first retirement was in 02, but health insurance costs drove me back to work, will retire again on Dec 29th, this year, so congrats Dockem enjoy don't work too hard at retirement and leave the light on for the rest of us!!!

Congratulations. It will be good, just takes a little time to adjust. I stay busy and would not have it any other way. I teach the grandkids how to stay in trouble. I sure didn't have the time with my children as I do with the grandchildren. It is a good feeling to know that you had great employees. Jim

Congrats on your retirement! Now you will be asking yourself how did I have time to get everything done when I was working. Stay busy and enjoy all the things you like to do like getting out and riding more.:clapping:

When I announced my soon to be retirement, a riding buddy wrote this song parody for me. Apologies to Johnny Paycheck :D

Sing to the tune of "Take This Job and Shove It"
Take your teeth and shove em...
I ain't workin on them no more...
I'm so tired of smellin your bad breath...
Every time I come in that door......

You better find another Dentist.......
If your gums are red and sore...
Take your teeth and shove em...
I ain't workin on them no more...
Well..that case of Gingivitis...
Really is gross to me....
That's why I'm sellin this business...
And headin off to set myself free....
I've found myself a buyer...
And your gonna hear me say..
I'm a headin off on a Goldwing...
To enjoy my future days.......
Take your teeth and shove em...
I ain't workin on them no more...
I'm so tired of smellin your bad breath...
Every time I come in that door......
You better find another Dentist.......
If your gums are red and sore...
Take your teeth and shove em...
I ain't workin on them no more...
