I noticed (by accident) the other day while cleaning my Stallion that it has an overdrive button on the side of the steering column. I have never tried it and wonder if it works or if this is just another switch like the windshield wiper switch that is actually there but no wiper to make it work? Thanks in advance for the forthcoming information on this subject. Thank you. Stallion owner #330.

Yes it does. I've used it to help with engine braking going down steep long mountain roads. Just remember to turn it off when your done.

I use mine going up hills. The little 4 banger doesn't have enough torque, at low RPM's, so the trans keeps downshifting going up steep grades out west.

Thanks for clearing up the overdrive. Just one more cool feature offered on this fine machine. I will try it out on my next ride. Thanks again guy's. Sure is nice to have a place to share information....Buddy#11, Stallion #330

I went out and checked my Stallion (#350) and I definitely do not have any overdrive button anywhere on my steering column or dash.

That is crazy! Like I had mentioned, I was just wiping things down and my rag hit something on the otherwise smooth steering column and when I looked it was an overdrive switch. I'm glad to know that it does indeed work. Must have discontinued them at some point? Yours was made probably only a couple of weeks after mine was....interesting. Thanks for commenting. Maybe someone else with more knowledge of these Stallions can elaborate a little more on the subject.

Look under the bottom left side of the transmission shifter T Handle. Should be a black button there close to the center shaft. When you push it, there will be an O/D light come on on the bottom left side of your center dash idiot light section.

I appreciate you clearing that up for me. I was mistaken when I said it was on the left side of the steering column... temporary brain fade. I looked again and saw it below the t handle shifter on the left side. I wonder if you would mind elaborating on how it actually works? When engaged does it just stay in the same gear it is currently in, without shifting down where it would if it weren't engaged? Someone mentioned that they use it going up hills to keep it from shifting down frequently? Never owned a rig with overdrive before so don't know how it actually works. Thanks in advance for clearing my confusion....Buddy#11 Stallion #330

Buddy, The transmission will still shift normally, it just won't go into overdrive. Out here in AZ, I'm always going up and down hills so I know when to keep the overdrive off. A couple of months ago we took our annual summer ride. This year we went from AZ to California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and back to AZ, so I was using it everyday. We do those type of trips every year. Several years ago, I changed the rear from a 4:10 to a 3:73 trying to get better fuel mileage. It didn't work because the little 4 banger needs the RPM's up to keep the torque curve up. I went back to the 4:10. I guess it have worked if I was a flat lander. I don't know why, but no matter what I've done to mine, and I've done a lot, I very rarely average over 30mpg. Rick

Thank you so much for clearing that up for me. I didn't realize that it worked in the opposite way I would have thought it would. So it is on UNTIL you push the button and it turns it off. Very interesting. Seems like on cars, if you want your rig to run in overdrive you must push a button, flip a switch, pull out a knob or whatever to put it in...not take it out. I can see now how it was designed that way because of the torque curve as you previously mentioned. I sure appreciate your time in giving me correct information....Jack
