stallion mpg

Re: exhaust to loud

Silver Eagle;

I put the dual exhaust on from Adventure Motorsports in Alabama and it actually made the exhaust quieter at highway speeds. It is louder at idle, but has a deeper tone. In addition you gain some ground clearance on the muffler, they use a glass pack. They leave the catalytic converter in place and bolt on the remainder behind it.

It is real easy to install and they have several different exhaust tips to choose from.

Call Randy or Marge at 334-792-7444 tell them you are a trike talk member. Randy is a member with the handle (Bazooka).

I would not recommend removal of the converter as there are in and out sensors that would no doubt mess up the fuel injection.

Hello,
The best milage is about 35mpg,generally 29 to 32. Ilive in an area of mountains and high gorge winds but you would think mileage would be somewhat better.Freeway/72mph ,single lane roads 60 to 70. However,I was passed by a smart car on a downhill grade and when I decided this dastardly action required a response my turnoff appeared and I abandoned my need to pass this pretender. Although, the tear in my ego is bleeding profusely.

Silver Eagle check out the forum posts as Mattel suggest. If you are looking for quite you need to read them. My wifes Stallion has the system offered by "Bazooka" at Adventure Motorsports, but it is by no means quite. She loves the sound alot. The sound is deeper and nice but not quite. Ted

I have a 2009 Toyota Corolla with a 1.8 liter Eng and 4 speed atomatic which gets better mpg than my Stallion. At 70mph the Corolla with air on get 32mpg and the air is on. From day one this has gotten the same , it has 9300 miles on it. My Stallion has 2100 miles and with the air off I only get 30mpg if i,m lucky. Two different dealers tell me that when the engine is broken it will get better. No way I say. Every new car I have had, the millage did not improve. I have had a few cars and motorcycles over the last 55 years for I,m 72. I hope I am wrong about the mpg will get better on the Stallion. When I bought the Stallion in June , I though that I was going to get this great mpg. If I had known the truth I would not have bought it, I would have keep my Honda Gold Wing Trike. It got better mpg. Have fun and drive defensibly.

I wonder if there is a way to check/set the tuning on the Stallion like some of the bikes when changing gear ratio's, exhaust, and fuel injection.

I believe the rear differential is rebuilt in Texas and depending on the fit ,some people will have more stiction than others. Also, the front bearings ,depending on fit/tolerances can have different sticton factors. You can substitute friction for stiction if you like. Also, one can use the supplied test port to plug in different instruments to check performance. I tried to find a dyno in my area but the local engine builders didn't have the right system. Frankly, does the mpg matter that much.

After a fill up, I can go about 215 miles on flat interstate highway at around 70 mph then the low fuel light comes on (there are about 3 gallons left) and I then fill up again with about 6.5 gallons = 33 mpg.

When I run the AC and the same route as above, I get 175 miles on 6.5 gallons of fuel = 27 mpg.

My guess is that the mpg figure of 45 was taken at 55 mph w/o AC.

If I can ever go 55 mph till the low fuel light comes on, I will record values and post. I could probably just fill up sooner, but the results would not be as accurate as trying to use the most tank volume.

I had the bad luck of being on a road that had a speed limit of 55MPH
it was from Glennallen, Ak to Valdez, Ak and back, total of 240 miles.
I stuck with the 55MPH and got 44MPG

1000 mile trip to St Augustine and back with side rides. Mj averaged 35 MPH.

That would lead to my belief that the federal MPG figure was taken at 55 MPH. If I remember correctly, after 08, the rules for cars changed to Highway speeds measured at 70 MPH not 55 MPH.

If that is true why is it that the stated EPA MPG values for the Stallion have remained the same but we still get crappy gas mileage? My guess would have been that the stated values would have decreased IF the testing standard was raised to 70 MPH testing.

The testing standard was raised, but it was my guess that the actural testing on the Stallion was not redone to the new highway standard and therefore the current numbers were based on 55 and not 70 MPH.

Again just my guess since if I go 55, I can get close to 45 MPG on the highway, but if I go 70, I get about 35.

Just got back from a 3200 mile trip to Texas and back and we happened to get gas off of I-10 in LA which did't have the 10% e added and our mileage went from 32 to 39 at 70 MPH. Didn't last long as soon as we got into Texas it was back to the 10% added junk!!!!
9/18/10. Wow, I am loving this forum.
Wife and I just rode back form GA (we are in VA now). That's just over 600 mikes. I was actually impressed by the gas mileage. We cruised between 60 and 75 most of the time and the mileage stayed above 40MPG.

Course, now I'm told I have the tire presuure to high. 40 in front and 32 in rear. The ride is a bit abrupt on the passenger with 30 psi on the gage! :In town I can't seem to run steady...got to be in front, so it's low to mid 30s.
I think tomg hit the nail on the head...it's the ethanol that most of us are exposed to at most gas stations these days. I did a check on one of the websites that show where to get "real" gas these days and it appears, for the most part, that if you have a boat and are near a marina...you are in luck. Other than that as long as the stupidity of ethanol persists at the EPA you are going to get lower mileage as ethanol is the main fuel of availability across the country to the detriment of good gas mileage.
Just for comparision, I get between 38-42 mpg with larger custom wheels/tires on my Prius. If I had the standard wheels/tires it would probably be around 45 mpg. I have over 25,000 miles on it. It is fully loaded and cost about the same as a Stallion fully loaded.

Of course, on a trike you adventure somewhere and in a cage, you drive somewhere.

my best mileage was between Glenn Allen, Alaska and Valdez, Alaska. started at Glenn Allen and went to Valdez and back to Glenn Allen, all this done at the speed limit of 55MPH at about 250 miles
got 44 m/g

my worst was in Tx from El Paso for 150 miles or so doing the speed limit of 80MPH in 100 degree+ temps and running the A/C and pulling a trailer
got 23 m/g

Wow that is great mileage. In 20k miles my wife has never gotten close to 40 MPG. Not that we care because she loves her Stallion.

Even on our trip to Calif from TX, we never got over 30 mpg. Just had the cooler rack, no trailer. I contacted TMS asking how they figured the advertised mpg and they said that is the EPA calculation. Still loving it and it's better mileage than our other car!

Leslie and I did a 10 day 2500 mile road trip the end of Aug up to labor day weekend from Florida to WV, Ohio, Kentucky, Tenn, Nc, SC, Georgia and back to Florida riding two up with the rack/suitcases on the back. We did mostly interstate that trip and we averaged about 33mpg with an average speed of about 72. Tonight we are in Lost Wages heading back to Florida in the am via, Hoover Damn, Grand Canyon, Santa Fe, Dallas but kin the car this trip !!!
I have found the same thing on my '09 Stallion. Fuel gage on E, low fuel light on, but can only add 6.5 gal. Although I have to admit that I would hate to "push my luck" and run out!

welcome aboard. My wife goes by the trip odometer mostly. If you know what you average then leave some reserve you can plan your gas stops. Because of the design/shape of the gas tank, you will never have an accurate gas gage reading. But I would like the gage to read "E" when it was getting near there rather than the opposite like it does now.
the empty light will come on when you use up 6.5 gal, you still have 3 gal left.
when you get it down less than 2 gal left and you make a hard turn you will run out of gas for a moment as the gas is thrown to one side or the other and is not over the gas line. I have had this happen twice now
