Guess it's official now. "From January to March, 2012 Thoroughbred Motorsports Will be producing 150 Stallions".

Runner, I see that Thoroughbred will be at the BBB Rally in 3 weeks. I'm going and will try and 'pump' them for more info on their future plans.

When I first posted the info on the availability of 150 new Stallions starting in January (dated on Aug. 30) the reasoning was to fulfill a need for the Stallion and since 150 more engines were located...that is what you see happening.

It may be a good point to wait for the new engine to come to life but there may be "teething" problems on it as well and that is why this production run is being done...to allow for more "engineering" to be made better with the new engine.

Hope everyone who want's one (of the 150 becoming available) gets what they want.

Dennis

They may be running this limited production solely to keep the production base current. If not, the skill base that has, for all intents & purposes been sitting idle for nearly a year will migrate elsewhere. It is easier to freshen established skills with new technology then to train new skills.
BTW Stall1803: if there was a news release issued from TBMS about the upcoming production run can you post it here? TBMS website has no mention of such (or, anything new at all since last winter). TNX.

I have not seen a press release. I only saw the company's ad on page 26 of the October 2011 issue of Wing World.

Strangely, the company's WEB site has not been updated for a LONG time.

I sent an email to TBMS asking about the 2012's. Their reply was they have recently sent new info to their dealers, and to contact my local dealer. Now waiting for their response. Any Stallion owners out there in South Carolina?

The Stallion dealer I know says they talked to TMS and were told the price will be $33,995 with a $5000 deposit and production to begin in Jan.

I wonder if TMS will continue to offer a stripped down version or base model Stallion where the customer can pick and choose what options he/she wishes to have. I suspect they will, since their website, which hasn't been update since January 2011, still shows the base model for $28,315.00. Future Stallion buyers better be certain on their decision to buy, as I doubt their deposit will be refundable, unless it's falls under a "dire emergency". I trust that the deposit forms that the dealerships have will spell out to the customer what these circumstances are.

Received this reply from TBMS today: We are going to start production of a limited run of 150 units in January. We have notified our dealers according and they are currently taking deposits. They will come loaded out at $33,995.00 and will have the Ford 2.3 engine, same as before

I talked to Nick at the BBB Rally in Fayetteville, AR last week. The 150 2.3L engines will go in the 2012 models beginning in Jan. The 2.5's will go in the 2013 model later in the year.

I was told by my dealer last night that they are not making the 2012 Stallions and the dealers were refunded their money. Had anyone else heard this?

I contacted TBMS and confirmed that information as correct. A more complete statement from Jeff Vey of TBMS/Motor Trike will follow here shortly.

Ed - you are correct.

Jeff & Diane have released the following letter:

This is a notification that we are not going to produce the Stallion in 2012.

Although we had planned to, we did not receive enough deposits to meet the 150 requirement we needed to be able to profitably manufacture the Stallion.

We have the majority of the parts we need but cannot manufacture something that is not already sold in the current economic environment. The risk versus the reward just isn’t there. Of course, we will be returning all the deposits we have taken.

The question that will be asked is if the Stallion is dead? No, but until we have enough firm orders in place we cannot take any chances. We will reevaluate market demand in the future.

Thank you,
Jeff and Diane Vey

All deposits to dealers and customers have already been refunded.

I am sorry to hear that. That is one thing I was never too enthused about is the deposit requirement.

For a period of time there were some "extra" Stallions available that you could buy without a deposit but obviously that time has passed. I am tempted to forecast my eventual trike purchase as leaning more to a CanAm Spyder if I ever go that route...it just strikes me the wrong way for a lot of reasons.

When the Stallions were the new kid on the block I guess a deposit may have made sense, but after their reputation grew I think it should have been production, deliver to your dealers and sell them...if potential buyers wanted one bad enough...they would be putting deposits on them to get their place in line solidified so that they could get their Stallion ahead of those that may not want to place a deposit on one...that is fair.

But after the fiasco of the 2011 non-production year I was already rapidly losing my interest. When I heard that they had finally started the search for a new engine and settled on one and then found 150 of the original engines for the planned Jan - March production run I started to have some high hopes that the Stallion was coming back...

...now I just don't know and I am starting to look elsewhere. Unfortunately for TMS I have a feeling that there are a lot of other potential buyers that may start feeling the same way.

Dennis

A very unfortunate turn of events. But we will enjoy ours until it cannot be repaired anymore.

Additional comment. Those of us that have Stallions should not be discouraged. There should be plenty of spare parts at MotorTrike to keep our machines running just fine. It would be nice if parts lists, wire diagrams, and service manuals could be made available to us that want to make these wonderful machines run for quite awhile. I am willing to purchase whatever can be made available to help me keep my Stallion serviced.

Oh well, they were fun while they lasted. I guess I'll just lurk, since I'll no longer be a rider.

Sorry Fred I know how you and Miles loved to ride. Maybe pickup one from the used market. Some people will be bailing so you may get a deal.

Big Dog...I obviously missed something...what happened?

Dennis

Dennis, back in August -- just as he was heading to the NE TrikeTalk rally -- Fred was "crunched" and the stallion totalled! Thankfully, while the trike was ruined, he came through it with only bumps and bruises and Miles was not with him. Fred ordered a new stallion the same day.... this new announcement by TMS is a real blow to him, as you can imagine!

TO FRED: We still want you here participating whether you are on a trike or not! You are still a member of the family :)

Thanks for the update Nana...and Big Dog I'm glad you came thru it okay. And I am sorry you have to hear this latest news...like you...I am almost (not quite...but almost) speechless at this announcement.

I even stopped by their "factory" in Troup, TX on my motorcycle trip on the way back from Marne, Iowa and was really starting to look forward to seeing the new one coming out...now I don't know if it will even see the light of day.

Dennis

Well, I looked at all of the conversions, and the Stallion was "the" best only really only fit. But since then Harley came out with the Tri-Glide, maybe a trip to the Harley shop is in my future. Dennis all I can say is for the three years I had it, the only thing that beat my joy on the Stallion, was thirty years ago on my K100RT!:D

Fred: Their will be more STALLIONS ..Jeff & Dianne will not let the STALLION and TBMS die.. Yes it is a Joy to operate a Stallion as all stallion owners know. The economy will come back and there will be more Stallions....ThumbUp
