Rear Wheel Drive Assembly Lube Points

Are there more than one rear wheel drive assembly lubrication points? 2012 TriGlide. I checked the shop manual and could not find an reference to lubing this grease zert or any others for that matter.

I believe you will find that fitting is only to be serviced by trained Tech at time of assembly. there was an old tread if I can find it I will repost it. fred

So if I pumped some grease in there would I have harmed the dif?

I cannot answer that question I wish I had more information than I have on the subject. Hopefully someone that does will chime in.

If you didn't do it already ' Then don't ! But lf you did probably no harm was done 'unless you went nuts with the pump

In reading the 2012 service manual, it states ;

Never add grease to the differential. The grease added at the factory will last the life of the motorcycle. The diff is a assembly, there are no replacement parts .

It is also a dry rear. No lube - as in a car . The axle and diff bearings are sealed. Yes you can disassemble, pop the grease seals off to re- lube , if your that board, but not necessary. Remember, your only carrying 1100 lbs ! Not 5000.

I doubt that I put more than an ounce of grease into the fitting. I see by the drawing how it's assembled. I still didn't find the warning in the shop manual. The dealer did replace the dif under warranty a few years ago. Said he put in an "upgraded" version as my stock dif pucked.

After contacting 5 service departments around the country, the majority says don't worry about the grease. All of them claim their techs check the grease (how I don't know since it's sealed) and will add some at major service intervals. Excess grease will work it's way to the bottom and might leak out very slowly over time. Drive it like ya stole it!

I hope you used a number blocker app when you called those 5 Harley Dealers and clearly stated "I'm asking for a friend".

You could probably unscrew the zerk and stick something in there to draw out a little grease and see what it looks like. Of course, any metal would be bad. It's grease, not oil, so it wouldn't necessarily run to the bottom.

Inside are the spider gears, the only time they move is when you are going around a corner, they allow the outside wheel turn a little faster than the inside wheel. They might rotate one revolution as you go around a corner. When you go straight, they don't come into play.
