Please pray for pwhoever!

At noon today I got a text from our friend and Trike Talk Administrator Michael Kayne (pwhoever). He was involved in a wreck on his trike in Manchester Kentucky while en-route to Maggie Valley to join fellow Trike Talk members already there. Mike has some pretty serious injuries and was life-flighted to the University of Kentucky Hospital Trauma Center in Lexington. He has since texted me again and confirmed that he has a broken pelvis which will require surgery in the next couple of days.
Prayers for a speedy recovery

Well I figure it's about time to update this thread now that I've been home for a little more than a month.

About a week after being home, I had my appt with a local Ortho doc. He scared the hell out of me because he started talking about possibly having to do revision surgery. I wasn't happy. He had me do another cat scan and some X-rays that day. I really didn't want to spend more time back in a hospital. He called back the next day with results and said he felt more comfortable with what he saw and said we would wait until the next appt and see how my progress went.

I had the follow up last Thur and he said it's looking good and that in another 6 weeks, I may be able to put full weight back on my left leg. I have been using a walker to get around and have been able to put full weight on my right leg. It sucks because everything takes so much longer as it is slow going moving around. And I really have to think about what I need to do each time I get up so I can get it all done without having to back track.

Pain is very manageable. I'm off the oxycodone and have been for a little over a week. Now I'm just using ibuprofen and acetaminophen to handle the pain. And pain as a whole really isn't all that bad now. I am in a much better spot than I was a month ago.

All your thoughts and prayers have been working so I thank everyone for those and truly appreciate them. I have been counting my blessings during my recovery and know that the whole episode could have easily turned out way worse than it did.

glad you are mending. If you need physical therapy do it. You will very glad you did. You will get back to normal a lot quicker.

I can finally provide an update! I know it's been awhile but had another visit today with my ortho doctor. I have been doing pretty good lately but have still been tied to the walker to get around. I reached out to his office last week about trying to drive and was given his blessing as long as I felt I had full control over my right leg. I did and Thanksgiving, I was able to drive myself to northside of Chicago to my brother and sister in law's for Thanksgiving dinner. Today, I drove myself to doctors visit. After a new round of x-rays, he said everything looked good. He compared todays x-rays with last visit and said everything looks stable. He gave me the go ahead to start putting full weight on my left leg and over the next few weeks to transition away from the walker. He said as long as I feel comfortable, I should be good. That was exactly what I wanted to hear. I have the regular physical therapy starting up in about 1-1/2 weeks now that I've made significant progress. The at home stuff was basically some light PT to keep some flexibility and some basic strength training. I am a very happy camper and again, thank everyone for all the thoughts and prayers. They helped tremendously!

This is awesome news! You are doing the right things to help yourself and the results of your X-rays prove it. Transitioning away from the walker comfortably is your next milestone. Take the little "wins" one at a time!

Thanks for the update Mike! Sounds like you and doing great! Keep doing what your doing to get better and we will keep the prayers coming!

Good for you. Puts a smile on my face.

Just remember that PT is the answer to the best recovery. Glad you are doing GREAT. Nothing wrong with pushing a little to get better

Good to hear about your progress. The key is finding the fine line between doing too much and doing what needs to be done for progress. Each of us are different. Sounds like you've been doing it right.....
