Please pray for pwhoever!

Thanks everyone. I'm happy to be able to type this. I am very lucky. I was wearing my helmet (as usual) and my riding jacket, jeans and hiking boots. I was following my GPS and missed a turn but it recalculated right away so I didn't worry. Turns out I was headed down into a holler. Coming up a hill and really not going fast, I suddenly saw an orange construction barrel in my lane and it looked like road ended but couldn't get stopped quick enough. I ended up veering to right and going over an embankment with roughly 30ft drop. I have been told trike frame is split and probably totalled. I am very lucky because there were some kind folks close that called 911 for me. Worst for me is the fractured pelvis and I'm having surgery sometime tomorrow. Family is headed my way an will be here later tonight and tomorrow.

Again thanks for all your prayers and good wishes and to Papa Zook for posting this. I will update as I can...
Prayers for speedy recovery.

Surgery happened earlier this afternoon and went well I feel much better tonight than I have all week. Still not sure when I will get released but they are planning on getting me up and trying to walk tomorrow.

My 2 daughters and son in law got here yesterday and finished grabbing my personal stuff from trike. Now that part is in the hands of State Farm. It looks pretty bad but thought it was going to look worse... I will try and attach some photos later. Time for some rest now.

Very much appreciate the offer but just found out today that my trike is soon to be going to a State Farm Salvage yard for estimation and I assume being totalled. I need to figure out my next steps on that. That will take some time and healing up is the priority.

It's going well and there has been talk about sending me off to a rehab facility (ughhh), or being released soon to go back home as long as my progress continues as it has.

All the thoughts and prayers have been doing a lot of good and I appreciate them all! Thanks!

Glad to hear the surgery went well and you have some relates there with you.
Hoping your trike gets totalled, so you don't have to deal with getting it fixed.

I found out I am getting released on Fri and will be headed home to continue healing. A buddy of mine that lives in Central Illinois is going to pick me up and take me to his house. My daughter will meet us there and get me all the way back home. I'm looking forward to this.

I am going to include some photos from the site and damages to the trike. First photo is the site showing where I went over the embankment. If you look in between guy in red shirt and green brush mower, you can see the top trunk of my trike. 2nd phot gives a little more perspective showing the initial drop and where that barrel in first picture is.

Here are just a couple photos of the damages.

And like I have been told above, my healing comes first as true is replaceable. I fully agree with that. Thank you again to everyone.

That's great news. Be sure to continue any rehab/therapy . I know your looking forward to getting home. That was a heckova ride.

Wow, you definitely had an angel looking after you... you seem to be less banged up than your trike!

Glad you are getting released to go home!!! We will continue to keep you in our prayers for a full recovery.

I don't understand it either as I ended up half in creek just behind the trike. I obviously didn't "walk" away unscathed but truly got lucky. I do think what helped at least for me was wearing various safety equipment. Over the first couple days, I kept getting the loaded question from many staff here about was I wearing my helmet. I know everyone was ready to give me the lecture. But each time, they grew quiet when I happily stated I was and always do. I also had my Tourmaster riding jacket with various pads, jeans, and hiking boots. I know that trikes are more stable than 2 wheels but you are still exposed to many of the same threats. My personal choice is always wear a helmet (except for that quick ride up to gas station sometimes) and probably 85-90% wearing the riding jacket. It's a mesh and has liners so it's good from cool weather up to some pretty warm temperatures.

Please don't take any of this as trying to virtue signal. I am not. Everyone here is an adult and free to make their own choices. I support that fully. I was just sharing what I do.

I agree. I always wear my helmet. I was involved in Fire and EMS most of my adult life and saw what not wearing your protective gear gets you in an accident. Helmet, jacket, gloves, long pants and over the ankle boots are my choice.

In my state, helmets usage is mandatory by law (Massachusetts) BUT in Connecticut next state over , 15 minutes from my house, NO helmet law.......... (BUT I wear one 100% of the time myself) I get a laugh at some of the Conn. riders, NO helmet, shorts, flip flops, tee shirt (or no shirt at all  ) passing me like I'm stand'nnnn still at high rate of speed..

Just wanted to update everyone. I was finally released from UK Healthcare hospital in Lexington yesterday. By 12:45 p.m. Eastern, I was in front seat of a lifelong buddy's Sierra pickup heading back north. He drove just over 6 hours down to get me and took me to my daughter and son in laws place in Minonk Illinois where I swapped over into my son in law's pickup and he drove me the rest of the way home. It was just over 9 hours of drive time. We pulled into my driveway by 9:30 Central. I was very sore from the ride and didn't sleep more than about 4-1/2 hours total last night. Very glad to be home. Without the help of a very dear friend and family, not sure how it could have gotten done.

Mon morning I will be trying to find a Ortho doctor up here and then trying to get some PT scheduled.

Thanks for the update Mike! Glad you made it home safely! It it always more comfortable at home with family and friends. Good luck with PT... you are still in our prayers!
