Pleasant Experience on the Road

I was riding home today, about a 30 mile ride. I was on a narrow 55 MPH road. I came up on a bike on the shoulder in heavy traffic with his blinkers on, a younger girl on the back and a small dog in a carrier with his little head sticking up. I stopped to offer help. He indicated he only stopped to make a call, so I waved and moved on. Five miles later he caught up to me and we pulled over in a parking lot and had a nice conversation. It was really cool meeting a friendly biker and sharing some tips. He's talking about a trike, as we are both of a age. Anyway, the whole deal made me smile.

Coming home on rt 84 biker on road side had flat. He was taken care of as a friend was coming with a trailer. Told me he counted a dozen no stoppers that pased by. Thanked me as being old school. Made feel good even though I couldn’t of helped . Cell phones are your friend in that case. ☎️

We were trailering over to Red Lodge Montana, went by three 2 wheels and a GL trike stopped at first it appearred they were taking pictures. Then it hit me the guy on the trike was trying to get into his trunk. Pulled over and walked back to check on them. They had stopped to take pictures, BUT the triker put his keys in the trunk and closed it. With it locked.

something I never thought of it would do. They had been there about 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get into the trunk. We gave them some cold botteled water. Just as thr triker was about to take a stone to his trunk I remebered an article the samething on another forum. Looked it up on your iPad. There is an hold under the trunk that you can use a heavy wire to pull down on a connecting cable. Without any wire to be found he took off antenna bend to end and finally opened it, cheaper than a trunk lid.

I don't know about the younger riders but I think most of us oldies know when we break down to put our helmet on the ground behind the bike a few feet.

Thanks. Some of the older folks (not calling any names, you know who you are) need to be reminded. If I could just remember where I parked the trike now...

A few years ago my brother in law and I were riding in the Texas Hill Country. He missed a corner and was taken to the hospital. I spent the balance of the day checking on him and getting his bike out of the pound. Next day I thought I could get some riding in. In about 15 minutes I passed a young man on the side of the road next to his motorcycle. Gave him a thumbs up and he shook his head no. Stopped, he thought his battery was bad so I rode 45 minutes one way to buy him a battery. Came back, installed the battery and bike still wouldn't run. I rode back to my rv and got my motorcycle trailer, loaded his bike, took him back to rv until his friends came after him. After 2 days of rescues and very little riding I decided to just go home.

I am old, but have never heard that. Thanks for that tip.

You're Not that Old!!!

Always check to see if they need help...just the right thing to do.

Interesting thing...these days there are Far less bikes on the side of the road needing assistance than there used to be...probably a combination of better bikes and cell phones.

I would not have known about it if I had not belonged to the AMA back through the 80’s and early 90’s.....I’ve never seen it mentioned elsewhere....not even in the GWRRA stuff back then....or, if it was in their stuff I read on as I already knew of it...

I've been riding only 53 years now! and I have to admit, (or hide my face) that I didn't know that trick either...thank you

I would think that someone with more computer knowledge than i have can find and post the list of motorcycle signals... I know when i want to warn an on coming biker of a deer in the road, Or a Speed trap , I will tap the top of my helmet....I know you can flash the head lights...But in the case of a speed trap that might get ''You'' more attention than you would like..:D

I'm curious if you tried your key on his bike....I have heard that there are a limited amount of keys that open your Tour Pack and Trunk. Sometimes ya get lucky and can open another riders trunk. Not a good thing unless it happens to you. Like the crooked wire thingy!

imthink he was talking about the GoldWing trunk being locked...I’ve seen this happen. Unlike HD the Wing will lock by just closing the trunk.

when we had a wing, I hid a key for this bonehead move...
