Ok, let me explain, my friend and I were at a harley dealer, he got 4 quarts of oil and a oil filter plus a few other things. He was drinking a water bottle and he filled it up before we left, he put it in the bag with the oil and filter, he didn't realize the water bottle spout was open, when we got to the bikes he dropped it on the ground and maybe that is what opened the spout on the water bottle hard to say, so he starts taking things out of the bag and drying them off and putting them in the tour pak, the oil filter box was really wet and when he tip the filter upside down water poured out, he said he had another at home to use.

Ok, can this filter be used after a long time of drying out or is it toast????

All for now Trampas

Throw it out, Even if it will be ok to use, In the back of his mind [It would be in mine] it will bother him.....Toss it.

Good question. Well, what does a filter do  it filters out debris. You use milage as a gage thinking after time too much debris had gathered and now is clogging the filter. Oil is wet, water is wet, and the water had no debris, so you would think it would be ok. So if the filter dries out will it be ok  Guess that would be a call you would need to make.

Opinion's vary.

I would use it without any hesitation. You can heat it up with a hair dryer let it set for a couple of days and I would expect it would be good to go. JMO

As I said in my first post he had a extra one at home, this wet one will sit most of the summer in his shop drying out, not sure if he will use it or not, that is up to him.

If it was mine I would toss it just to be on the safe side, it is paper on the inside is why I would toss it

I would pitch it in a heart beat!

Risk a thirty thousand plus something machine over a comprised oil filter not in my life time. just sayin  Ride safe Fred
Its a oops ! For $7.00 , ive wasted more $ on lost lottery tickets

I'd use it in an instant.....after it dries.

What could possibly be the risk????????

My filters are not paper so I'm not worried about that. Water evaporates ........ drinking water has no impurities in it - at least that's what the mfg's tell us. :D

Water has a tendency to dissolve some papers. Why would anyone take such a chance for just a few dollars?

I agree....For instances, Many years ago when i had a Spyder i was adding a gas stabilizer to the tank, And inadvertently the cardboard/plastic seal from the inside side of the cap fell in the tank, And every time i ran the tank a little low, Or the engine acted a little funky , First thing that came to mind was i should have fished that seal out... Now i know that seal wasn't gonna hurt a thing and it didn't for over 20 thousand miles, And as far as i know its still in there, And the new owener won't have that worry.. ...But like i said before...I had.....

Monsters of the Id....
