While at the dealer getting my clutch recall taken care of I decided to go look at the new 2020 what they had, was on the floor trying to find the primary vent thing to prevent the transmission fluid going into the primary, couldn't fine and one of the salesman came and ask what I was doing on the floor, told him I was looking the the primary vent and he told me it is a internal thing, I said ok and we had a laugh about it, also noticed no rear shifters on any of the bikes, trikes and 2 wheelers, he said they don't come with a rear shifter now, you have to buy it if you want it, I was shocked after all of these years with a rear shifter and now not, go figure, another way for harley to get more money out of you. I have heard about no rear shifters so now I believe it since none of them had it, ask the salesman how many have been sold and he said quite a few and no one has ordered a rear shifter, surprise, surprise.

All for now Trampas

You need to get the extended one from J&P Cycles to take full use of the floorboard

It makes a world of difference when it's the correct length & adjusted properly.

Not surprising. You figure maybe cost of $5 for the rear setup their cost times the number of touring bikes they sell each rear. 50k units would be 1/4 of a million dollars saved.

I doubt one can simply add a Heel Shifter to the Shifter Shaft on a 2020 Model. Looks like they don't have the extra length with the necessary splines for a Heel Shifter. I suspect it will require replacing the stock Shifter Shaft with a longer one with the extra splines.

The 2020 Tri-Glides have /come with heal and toe shifter as standard equipment....

According to the sales person he thinks you can add a rear shifter by taking off the bushing that covers up the rest of the spline, but he doesn't know for sure and I didn't think to ask any service people since it doesn't matter to me anyway

The 2020 triglide on the showroom do not have a rear shifter, just one as I said

I've changed several of those shafts over the years. It's not that hard. I expect they will even have a kit you can buy to add it on. Bottom line they saved money on the original build and then will make money on the addition back for those that want it.

I personally do not have one on my 13 or on my 07 conversion before it. I have no trouble using it on the bikes that I occasionally ride though. Just like shifting without it and having more room on the floor board for my foot.

Thanks!!...after a quick search, I found this video on

I watched the video ......But i don't think that guy rides in the rain, At least with a Trike when he says you don't need to close the windshield vent....With my 17 Tri when riding in the rain when i left the vent open the rain would blast in and hit my chest...:xzqxz:..Closed and the rain at 35+ MPH would just go over the top of the shield and over my helmet and keep me relatively dry.....

I use the rear shifter 98% of the time. I'm tired of having all boots being chewed up all the time and it makes getting into neutral very easy. Plus the rear shifter can be use for the front shifter if that one was to go flying off. That happened to a chapter member a few years back. I was right behind her and it almost hit me.

Well, I might have paid $1,100 more for my 2019, but I got a heal toe shifter and 2 FOBs. Think I would have rather had the $1,100:D

Don't forget that you have the Faring Vent with Button for Opening and Closing!:D

All my upshifting is done with the Heel Shifter. No stuffing or damage if ya choose to ride with nice footwear.:)

I bought a 2020 tri-glide with one fob and no rear shifter. Over the years I have owned several touring bike and the first thing I did was to remove the rear shifter. I went to my garage and got one of those, installed it and it works jut fine.

You're confusing me. :xzqxz: But... I'm easily confused, happens all the time.

Want an additional security fob you have to buy it. Not standard to get 2 any more. Anyway to get more $$$$$ for what use to be standard. I'm still pissed over the CB radio business.

AND don't forget what has happened when HD decided to save $.50 a bearing by switching from the metal Timken to the plastic INAC bearing. Cam failures became the norm and not an exception. WITH no recall. Get stranded out in the boonies....sucks to be you.

You need to buy the extended one anyway to use the entire floorboard & adjust it to work properly.

I found 2 HD key fobs for $29+shipping on EBay. I'm already on my 2nd one as the 1st 1 quit working after 2 years.

Browsing the HD website, they advertise the heel shifter for $49.95 & give you free shipping at $50

Simply amazing. The extended one is definitely the way to go for much less money.

I got mine from J&P Cycles.

New bikes/ trikes will need to change the shifter shaft also if they want to add a heel shifter, HD has this one figured out don't they , I am wondering if the primary cover where the shaft runs thru has been changed?

It's all about Harley Davidson saving money. Screwing buyer's out of items that should be included in the purchase of these expensive machines. I'm still Pissed off that the Tri-Glide so called "Ultra" does not include the CB.

Well, if Harley thinks by omitting heel shifters on 2020 models they will be able to sell a bunch of them they may be wrong. Even after putting mine back on from my 2019 I still have at least three brand new ones in my spare parts box.

I knew it was a good idea to save all of those!
