For anyone who has seen the tv show, Big Bang Theory , you know that Sheldon has a fobia of geting sick 😷 by not shacking hands ect. Well I am becoming a Sheldon !

My bud owns a auto repair shop , one of my jobs is to take a repaired car on a drive cycle after repairs so it will pass the NYS inspection. 80% of these things are the grossest , smelliest things on wheels. I hate steering wheel covers :gah:they are the stickiest, spongyist, germyist thing any one could put on.

Thank goodness for surgical gloves , and Lysol spray. The youngens all laugh at me . But I can’t afford to get sick in any way, especially at my age.

Its really sad when I see a pizza box in the back seat with one slice still in it :gah:.

I have never been one to shy away from getting dirty.

BUT

as I go from desk to desk repairing peoples computers I come across some nasty desk. I have actually refused to work at some until they clean up

What gets me is the nastiest seem to be the young nice looking women

I had one in the last place I worked at, she was extremely pretty but was a slob

I liked talking and working with her but her desk and computer was always nasty sticky and scared me working on it.

I totally agree I don't touch anything more than I have to at work. Fred

You know 'Frank ...You don't have to eat that slice just because its sitting there., Use some self-control man....

Frank, you are not alone! When we started watching The Big Bang Theory Jim and I could not get over how much I identify with Sheldon in the way of germs and logic. I’ve taken a LOT of ribbing over this. I take Lysol spray on a trip to first-thing spray the commode, shower, vanity, sink, and doorknobs at the hotel. I carry the hand sanitizer in the car at all times and use it immediately, plus the little sanitizer cloths in the individual packets in my purse, use a plastic glove at the gas pump...and carry a paper mask to put over my nose/mouth if need be. I open doors with my shirt-tail, coat-tail, or a tissue. I don’t take flu or pneumonia shots. I stay away from crowds unless outdoors. KNOCK ON WOOD...I haven’t been sick with a cold, flu, or stomach bug in many years. It works, therefore its logical! All that being said, I don’t mind camping, digging in the dirt, and getting all grimey working with livestock and dogs... works for me!

The more you hang around with the great unwashed the more immunities your body works up...Why do you think so many people are getting sick this days, Too many antibiotics and sanitary wipes , They even have a dispenser at the entrance to stores so the Woof's can wipe the shopping carts handle, Then they go strait to the salad bar and handle the ladle that 100 people handled before them .....John Wayne didn't kill all the Indians , It was disease that did them in, From their lack of immunities.....:D

Got a point there Bob, we ate dirt n worms and lived to tell it . I still eat tequila worms 🐛

This is true about the Indians.

When I compare all those years of repeated illness prior to taking precautions, I never saw an immunity built up, and now being virtually free of it... I am content to continue my regimen...I don't like being sick.

If dirt and grime and rot mold/unsanitary conditions would kill you or make you sick, Outside of occasionally losing an arm or leg in a piece of machinery, There would not be a Farm Worker alive to day....

A long time ago when I was a young man I did some repo work for a car dealer. Dog **** and piss on the seats, used diapers, used condoms, :xzqxz:, when people knew they were losing the car they didn't GAF.

Always made me wonder what God was going to do for the second try after sterilizing the planet of all the vermin on it now...

I am a plumber, my hands are always dirty (greasy)..BUT I will not pump gas w/o using a paper towel ... I refuse to touch the gas pumps, elevators hand holds, toilet flush handles, door knobs/handles at stores, always again, use a napkin or use shirt sleeve .. I've even began to hate to shake anybodies hand, been doing the fist bump thing!

I hate germs ..............

Ronnie

i have a buddy who works at a hospital and he was telling me whenever you walk though the doors of a hospital to hold your breath. he said the building has positive air pressure to always push the germs outward, so when you walk though the doorway you are getting hit in the face by every germ in the place. makes sense to me.

NONE of y’all would be able to work in a prison then! Especially the one I work at. It’s over 75 years old, and looks it. Don’t get me wrong, the thugs keep it as clean as they can. It’s just the sheer number of bodies in close proximity that I’m talking about.

Diferent situation, they are not exposed to the germy John Q. Other than the employees bringing something in and then spreading it around like wildfire.

OK, maybe I live in the past too.

I don't get FLU shots b/c when they first came out everyone that got one had a sick odor about them and one in four got the FLU anyways.

So I stay away from that FLU shot.:afraid:

As a Trike Builder, several times a year I would attend Bike Shows in the Winter Months. Attendance was usually pretty good and being cooped up surrounded by humanity in the Winter was pretty risky. If I didn't use precautions I would end up getting at least a sore throat or even sick after the show. I would use Alka Seltzer Nightime cold medicine as a preemptive.

This is kinda funny for me and this topic. I spoke with a friend of mine yesterday that also attended bike shows for his own business. He did this all year from coast to coast and was always getting sick. His doctor told him about saline nasal spray. He said he started using it and never got sick at the shows again. His doctor told him that breathing introduced germs to the body especially through the nasal passages.

I am going to get some today ...... perfect timing too.

My ear-nose-throat specialist recommended the nasal saline spray also. He said the stuff like Neosynphrine nose spray will tend to raise your blood pressure - not good for the older crowd. I’ve been using the saline spray for several years now to keep allergies/pollen at bay....I think it’s great...easy to use....not messy. Just spray it, lean over to let it run into the sinuses, then blow...that’s it!

I think this and the constant colder temperature in hospitals is an attempt to keep germs down

I dont care, I wipe my hands when I enter and leave a hospital or a clinic

My wife recently got hooked on misting essential oils in the house. I have no idea if they work for flu but we'll be finding out as we went to a meeting yesterday full of people hacking up a storm. So she mixed up something and started misting it. We'll see.

We use essential oils and I believe it does work. When I was flying all over the country, I would get a little junk in the head almost every time. The air is filtered and reused, now you know what happens, yuk. Jim

Oh yes, I hated flying for that very reason. And I'd swear some people purposely don't bath before they fly. Some would reek they were so bad. But maybe that's what kills viruses for them. Nearly killed me at least.
