I've been meaning to post this but keep forgetting, this summer we met a gentleman by the name of Chris Tribbey from Wisconsin. He is the guy who rebuilt the son-in-laws 56 Panhead motor. He's competing in the Cannonball run on a 1923 Harley J, starting in Virginia Beach and ending in Oceanside, California. All competitors can ride any bike built 1933 or earlier, there were 77 riders entered There are only 2 more days of competition and so far he has logged all the miles over a 2 week period with a perfect score, also he has no support crew, it's him and the bike ! If anyone is interested, this is his bike and a link to his daily blog and the actual website for the Cannonball.

I'd be kind of scared to take a vintage motorcycle on a multi state road trip. My guess is you probably have to carry vintage parts with you in case something breaks.

Those guys passed through our area a number of years back (2016?) in the Motorcycle Cannonball. It was awesome to see the old motorcycles heading over the mountains here. We actually rode behind as blockers following some of them over the mountain.

There was an article in the San Diego Paper today about the ride, it finished yesterday in Oceanside. Some 2800 miles from Virginia Beach to Oceanside.
