Motor Trike

I have been to the specific trike kit forum where motor trike owners have all good things to say about the trike kits. Does any one have any thing I would need to know that would send me in another direction , I am going to look at a 2010 gl1800 with a motor trike kit. The trike only has 2500 miles on it.

</div>Is it a solid or independent suspension rear end? Not that it makes any difference toward your question. The only issues I've ever experienced with my MT Adventure were driveshaft which has been cured with the shaft redesign MotorTrike did recently and some have had misalignment problems with the way the side covers and the trike body mate up. I think every conversion has some irritation issue. I've got nearly 40,000 miles on my conversion and I'd do it again is a heart beat. <img src="images/smilies/poof.gif" border="0" alt="" title="poof" class="inlineimg" /> <img src="images/smilies/poof.gif" border="0" alt="" title="poof" class="inlineimg" />

One thing I ALWAYS recommend people do when considering a "used vehicle" purchase of ANY KIND is to talk to the current owner. As a condition of sale, have an AUTHORIZED and QUALIFIED shop (Motor Trike dealer in this case) look over the trike conversion. If the shop finds something wrong with the bike that you need to be aware of, the seller is to pay for this service; if the shop finds nothing wrong with it, and no concerns that would affect your purchasing decision, then you pay for this service.

In the big picture, spending a few hundred bucks up front may save you more hassle, problems, and frustration that you can imagine. I can't count the number of bikes and cars/trucks I've seen that someone bought without doing this, and have spend a good bit of money getting something into "proper operating" condition after spending the money to buy it!

Just my .02; may not count for much, but always worth mentioning!

I have nothing to complain about with my MT trike.
Service at my dealer although not exactly in my backyard. 140 miles away has been terrific.
MT customer service is best Ive ever had to deal with.
That all being said.
Ive never ridden any others trike.

Thanks for all your advise, in this case the trike is a 2010 which was bought in 2011 and triked in Leola PA. It only has 2500 miles on it and I wanted to check with the forum to see if they are any concerns to look for. I have read about the drive shaft problems on some. To THEREALTRIKKY,s wife your husband gives great advise.

I think you'll find that the majority opinion around here is that the trike kit makers all make a good conversion, and the differences just make it easy to find a kit just right for you. Almost all the manufacturers have problems from time to time, especially with new products, but they try to work hard to correct whats wrong. Most of the complaints seem to come with the installers not getting it right, which is out of the kit makers hands.

To add to RealTrikky's "Dead-On" Advice,,,,

Never take the Unit to the Dealer/Shop that did the initial Install for Pre-Purchase Inspection.
Chances are less that you would get an Unbiased Assessment.
A. They are going to rightfully be more loyal to Their Customer (the Seller)
B. Be less inclined to point out initial Installation Issues or possible Dealer errors for obvious reasons.

Just good Common Sense.
