Modular Helmet

Considering a modular,(flip up), helmet purchase. Looking for opinions, pros, cons, likes, dislikes of the different brands. Any advise appreciated.

We have G-Max helmets
GMAX Helmets
They are well vented and do not fog up easy. The best part is the chin screen, you can ride with the chin bar up and it does not act as a wind scoop.

Flip ups work well on a trike would not want one on a sport bike.

I have the Scorpion EXO-900.

What I really like about this helmet is that you can remove the lower chin piece and face shield to convert it into a 3/4 helmet. It also comes with a visor that you attach once you remove the chin piece/face shield. It takes less than one minute to do the conversion either way. The EXO-900 also has a drop-down sun visor that recesses inside the helmet. It's basically two helmets for the price of one. ThumbUp

Check out the Shark Evoline. The chin bar rolls all the way around and stores at the back so its basically 3 helmets: Full face; 3/4 with clear shield and internal sun visor, or open with internal sun visor. Set up for their Sharktooth blue tooth system too.

I currently have 2 Nolan's (one N103 and one N43E), 3 HJC's (one full face modular and 2 - 3/4's), and a Schuberth C3 Pro Modular. The Schuberth is the best fitting, most comfortable, and quietest of them all. It is also the lightest of them all as well. If I had purchased the Schuberth initially I would not have the rest of them on the shelf!!!

Geezer I tried all of them on at Iron Pony except the Schuberth, price tag skert me. Liked the HJC IS-Max, but I've read reviews that put it down due to lack of ventilation. Guess I should try one for fit.

A Large actually fits me, but I've learned over the years that taking Them on and off They stretch, so I use Mediums. Medium Shells are Lighter than a Large also.....

Love our HJC modular helmets. Have not done a feature/cost comparison with other brands. The modular design is very flexible under different riding conditions.

I like the Fulmer because it is one of the quieter ones and has good ventilation.

I have an HJC IS Max. It's a great helmet but weighs about 4 lbs. Due to an old neck injury it wears on me on longer rides. I just bought a 1/2 HJC helmet and it's a lot lighter if you don't mind the wind whipping through your ears at highway speeds. See if you can find something a little lighter if possible.

Most of the time I don't wear one. But for yrs before I rode with a 1/2 helmet. I want to hear my motor and whats going on around me. I know i'm one of the few. But that's just me. ThumbUp

Nolan N90-light, works well, fairly quiet..Like it better than the 104 or my old 102. Wife and I also have N43's with headset for two up rides.

We have the Scorpions, too. They run a full size smaller (at least ours do) than our other ones, and I find mine a bit heavy on hot days, but they seem to offer excellent protection. Haven't found it to expand with frequent use. I kept mine with all the visors, but John has adapted his to wear without the face shield. Give em a try!

Over the years, the most amazing thing to me about Helmets have been that the "Cheaper Brand Helmets", overall, tend to be the quietest as far as wind and road noise.....never understood this. Some of my Arai, Nolan, and Shoei Helmets have been extremely noisy, while most of the Fulmer and Vega Helmets have been the quietest......:Shrug:

Just a quick 2 cents worth on helmets. Sometimes I find myself thinking that I'm so safe on a 3-wheeler as opposed to a 2-wheeler that a helmet takes on less importance. However, in the event of any type of crash, you and your passenger will take up flying and the quality and type of helmet will be of the utmost importance. Get a good quality helmet and wear it! Because of the title of the thread - Modular Helmet - everybody involved must be an advocate for wearing a helmet, but again, just 2 cents thrown in.

Getting to the point there really isn't very many "bad" Helmets out there, as long as They have met DOT, European, and/or SNELL requirements/standards and are decaled as such. "Most" all are manufactured now in China, etc. using the same materials and Manufacturing Companies...."Price" is no longer the best indicator of a good helmet.....ThumbUp

Modular helmets are a neat idea however I am skeptical they are as strong as a solid full face helmet
