lower belt guard for tri glides

looking for lower belt guard ? it just cost me $1200 for rear belt replacement due to pavement stone damage ,second time 17000 kms on my 13 tri glide. this is caused by riding on newly paved roads and loose pot hole filler, when you hear the sticky stones fall from your wheels hiting fenders and bounceing up and sticking to belt and crushed trough the belt.i have dug out two of these and they are covered in tar.so does any one know who if anyone is making alower belt guard ?:(:AGGHH:

I haven't heard of anyone making a guard for the Triglide, I agree it would be a good idea to have one to minimize the chance of stone damage.

Triglide doesn't come with a lower belt guard? Jeeez!

I was worried about that very thing. I made made a lower belt guard for my 1997 Electraglide/DFT trike from the one that came on the bike. Trimmed it a little to fit and made a bracket to hold it. Probably had a full day of fab time with all the cutting and fitting.

If a lower belt guard isn't needed, why do bikes come with them?

could you make one out of a Bike chain guard?? Alittle Fab work to go along with it....
:Coffee: or just find yourself a Fab shop that probably could make one up. I have had a Hot Rod shop make things up for me when I couldn't find what I was looking for. just my 2 cents..

Just my 2 Cents worth, belt guard can make potential even higher. They can trap the debris in between the belt and the guard. I personally would not use one. The chances are slim that the belt will not self clean. I know it does happen where a stone gets on top of the lower section of belt and gets carried to the sprocket, but rare. I know you are sensitive right now after forking out that money, but after 30+ years of riding, I have (knock on wood) only had chain problems back in the days of chain drive. Never had a belt damaged bad enough to replace, and usually put 10K + per year.

this is third bike with stone damage and my point is every time it is due too small rocks from fresh pavement and or pot hole filler,i know it can still happen but believe it will reduce risk.i will modify an o6 softail deluxe lower belt guard as it is aprox. same width belt, and make brackets too attach to swingarm. thats the plan anyway?!

Would think a mounted brush would be better. They just paved my road ... so THANKS for the heads-up. I've already swept the stones from the bottom of my driveway. :clapping:

Ok aftermarket, here is something that would sell. I would definitely be interested in one.

FWIW, I just ordered a mud flap for the front fender of the trike. Hopefully the mud flap will sit close enough to the ground to stop any stones being thrown hard enough that they could bounce high enough to get near the belt. I'll have to take another look to see if a second mud flap in front of the belt might be a better idea.

I'm also looking to install a mud flap on the front of my Trike, what did you purchase and where did you find it?

I wish I could remember! When it gets here I try to remember to post where I got it from and a pic. It's the Old Fart's Disease, ya know.

Here is one I had made by one of the site sponsers Cap't Itch. It's leather and does an excellent job and I never noticed any difference on oil temps after the install. I've got over 15K on this mud flap now and have no intention of doing without.

Sidebyside, Here's a link to the mud flap I ordered from Timber Wolf Leather:
Harley Heritage Springer front mud flap
Live2Ride and HDBob had some good lookin flaps from other people also.

Sidebyside I can not get that link to work. But, there's a white rectangular box that you can type "Harley Heritage Springer front mud flap" into once you get to the Timber Wolf Leather web site and it will bring up the mud flap I ordered.Hope you have better luck with that than I have had trying to get this bold face print shut off.

Disregard boldface print problem mentioned above. Got it turned off in edit.

Thank You! I was able to open it. Great looking mudflaps.

I need to make a trip to the hardware store to confirm this, but I remember seeing a brush about 10" wide with soft bristles maybe 4" long that I think wall paper hangers used to put glue on the wall with. There's a hole even with the front of the transmission that would allow me to bolt 1/2 of this brush to the undercarriage of the TG. Part of the other half of the brush can be finagled to fit on the top half of the frame to block a stones access thru that opening. Granted, it'll look a little funny until the brush acquires enough road grime to blend in, but yer not gonna have to worry about any stones getting past and on to the belt.

Once you look at the underside of your TG you'll see how easy this will be.
