And I can’t even spell aerodynamics but I had an issue with my fuel Gauge yesterday. I get on ROJO for a 110 mile trip home. I look and the trip meter, ECU, NANNY or whatever determines my remaining fuel and it says I can go 85 miles. Since I travel this route often I know how far it is to gas stations and my first choice of fuel stops is in 63 miles.

Great….the computer says I can go 85 mikes! When I’ve gone a little under 50 miles I happen to look at my remaining fuel and it says I can go 27 more miles. The posted speed limits in this area are 75 MPH and even if they aren’t that’s how fast everyone goes. Problem is, I knew I’m low on fuel so I never got above 60 MPH. I should have more fuel than what the computer said. 85 minus 48 is 37. Not 27. Ten miles is a long way for a 72 year old to walk if I ran out of fuel by trusting the computer. I know a trike has more wind drag than a two wheeler because of the width. Just sayin.

I also know just about how far I can travel on my trike - when I get that close, I simply get gas.

Been there done that, now days I watch my fuel pretty close. When I get down to 1/4 tank, I start looking for fuel. I think that if I was doing something like crossing Nevada on hwy 50 I'd get a gallon gas tank and keep it in the trunk. Be easy enough to do. Actually, that's probably not a bad idea for around home or any trip LOL!

I concur, 1/4 tank start looking.

Hi I'm not an expert but I believe that the MILES TO EMPTY reading is a dynamic calculation that is always changing. Your Body Computer Module takes how much gas is flowing thru the injectors along with the speedometer reading, and the current reading of the gas gage needle saying how much gas is in the tank per the gage and comes up with the Miles to Empty reading. Change any of those parameters that reading will change. Go faster (less miles per gallon) it changes. Even going up a hill allowing the gas to move to the back of the tank will change the reading of the MTE. MTE display is an aid. It can say one thing and down the road you get into a head wind (causing you to use more gas to maintain the same speed) and it will change the MTE to a smaller calculation. Bottom line is know your trike and don't push the fuel close to empty or carry a spare gas supply.
