I have always pretty much put my hand out for all motorcycles and trikes coming at me on 2 lane roads. I never wave across opposite lanes on the interstate roads. I always felt it was too distracting and a little over the top.

I always wave, just stick my hand out, but up here Harley riders rarely wave at anything except another Harley.
