What tires do you run on front end of trike and how many miles do you get on them?

I seem to replace my front tire every 9-10,000 miles. Is that what the rest of you find?

I run the stock Dunlap, 14k outa the first set, And 23k outa the second set... I changed the first set too soon. I realized later that even when the center treads ware you still have more life in the tire..With plenty of tread left on the sides .

Avon has a trike specific front tire!
Prior to this, I had a Bridgestone BT45 rear, mounted reverse rotation and got 17,000 before severe cupping made a new tire necessary

Michelin Commander II

I switched to a Michelin Commander II I have approx. 7,000 miles on it and have half of the tread left. :Coffee: ride safely Fred

Stock Dunlop = 13K miles
Replaced with Michelin Commander II REAR tire 130/90B16 and I now have 13K miles on it and it still looks like new. I expect to get 26K out of this tire.

Rear tires have almost twice the tread depth as a front. I mounted it in reverse direction per Michelin's instructions for mounting a rear tire up front.

Michelin left .... stock right. It has a flatter profile which IMO adds a bit more contact patch.

Just replaced the front tire on my buddies 09 Tri with a Dunlop 402 rear running in the reversed direction will be curious as to how many miles it will get.

I use a Dunlop bias rear tire on the front in a reverse rotation. I am very happy with this tire. The last one had 19,000 trouble free miles on it. :)

I get anywhere between 7000 and 20000 miles out of the stock Dunlops....just depends on how much straight line riding vs. how much riding fast thru the curves I do....also a bit on the condition of the roads.

Recently I am running an American Elite for the rear, mounted in reverse, up front. Looks like I will get 30000 or more out of it, and that includes a lot of going fast thru the curves.

Based on information and recommendations on this forum I have an appointment next Monday to install the Avon Cobra trike tire up front. Still have the original factory Dunlop with 18k on it. Not totally worn out - still have about 2/32" right in the center. But that is the recommended tread depth to replace and I want to have a good new tire for the upcoming riding season. And oh yeah my dealer is running a special - free installation. That sure helps!

Hoping I'll like this Avon. Never run anything but Dunlop and Michelin Commander IIs on my Harleys so this will be a new experience.

Avon Cobra trike tire. Ran Avons on my two wheelers for a last few bikes. Got good mileage and handling out of them so figured why not the Avon Trike tire. Like is so far...

I would call them now to ensure you get the new Avon Cobra Chrome. It is supposed to give even better mileage & handling. I believe it's an AV91.

They ended the "Cobra Trike" tire last Oct. & now do the Cobra Chrome . The older version ,which I have has 20,000 on it & still looks good. When trying to find another found they no longer make it. Some places have a few left & some sell ya the wrong one. The New model says Cobra Chrome . See my post under tires. I emailed Avon & got a response which I posted . They are just getting the 16" out & they gave me the # for Harley TriGlide

I have an appointment for the tire mounting on Monday and yesterday (before reading about this 'new' version) I went by to look at the tire to make sure that Drag Specialties sent the correct one to my dealer. Even though I had the correct Drag part number (double checked and verified) you never know when someone in the warehouse might just pull the wrong item. So I verified that it does have 'trike' embossed in the sidewall and I noticed on the sticker label it did say Cobra Chrome. I didn't know what that meant but now thanks to the great folks on this forum I do. So all seems well and I look forward to having this new tire installed.

Good to hear Ultrafxr. The Avon is on my short list & I'm glad they improved on it. Please let us know what you think & remember, those 1st. 100 miles a new tire can be very slick due to the mold release.

It's not as bad for a trike.

Had the Cobra Trike tire installed today.

I got 15000 and 17500 out of the 1st and 2nd Stock Dunlop tires

Hopefully the Avon tire will do better.

It does ride and handle great!

Found two part numbers for Avon's Cobra Chrome Front Tires for use on the Tri Glide. Don't know the difference, except the second one cost a little more.

Avon AV91 Cobra Chrome MT90B16 Front Tire P/N: 2120196

Avon AV91 Cobra Chrome MT90B16 Front Tire P/N: 2120411

Finally found the difference. Avon AV91 Cobra Chrome MT90B16 Front Tire P/N: 2120411 is Avon's "Trike" Tire. A lot of on line sellers don't list the "Trike" designation in their Description or Specification for this part number.

Wes, thank you for your post. You are right... the 2120411 is the new trike tire and has a tread depth of 8.7 (same as the old trike tire) and the 2120196 has a tread depth of 5.2 (same as their old regular motorcycle front tire in that size).

Doug, many thanks for identifying those thread depth differences. Kinda figured that there was more between the two than just the "Trike" Designation. Your post makes it clear the difference in spec's between the two part numbers.

In looking at the new 'Chrome' version of the Avon Cobra trike tire I can readily see that the tread patter is different (and 180 degrees out of phase) from the 'original' version of the tire. Guess they decided this would somehow improve the tire. Hope so anyway, lol.

BTW I saw this difference in looking at the tires from the Drag Specialties website. Where did you guys find the Avon part numbers and specs? I went to the Avon website and saw the tire but without much information. Previously I'd been able to download a reference sheet with all the tire specs and sizes but could not find it there any longer.

Found the different part numbers and Trike Designation on Revzilla.
