How Do u ride a Trike?

When u ride with a group of trikers r there any special tips on group riding, for example for road debri, formation, lane change, hand signals (for handi cap). I know most of the rules of group riding are prob. the same for 2 or 3 wheel riders, but I would worry about road debri approaching, because of not being able to see the road ahead of some of the trikes, unlike the way u can see from behind a 2 wheel bike.

we ride staggered with 2 wheelers in between..I usually ride behind
a 2 wheeler in front of me and to my front-right is a can am spyder..sometimes if the road is really bad I fall back and ride more center..the roads are peaked or alot of holes which Michigan has the worst roads in the USA..if I ride center I let the guy in back know..trikes usually get stuck in the back and we get all that backlash wind from everyone in front...there is usually about 12 of us that ride all the time..anymore than that we split 2 groups leaving a few minutes behind the first group..Boom

Pretty much the same. Trikes stop in a shorter distance than 2 wheelers so hang back . I ride center lane, no stagger . I give hand signals if I see junk or dead animals in the road

I ride just left of center, so that front tire is just left of center oily strip, left rear tire is still in lane and right rear tire is on the right side of center (oil strip). Keeps cars or bikes from trying to get in lane with me on the left side and leaves me rooom to manuver to the right. Use the same hand signals to point out road hazards etc. as when riding on two wheels. No bikes share lane with me, person behind stages to the right of the lane.

We always point down at the debris in the road that fell off the Harley's :p

So no Goldwing will hit it, while they are drinking from their gaint cups or changing channels on the cd player :D

:yes::yes::yes:

I, too, ride front wheel just to the left side of the center area in the lane, and at the back. That usually gives me a clear view ahead between the bikes. Because of how loud my pipes are, I don't usually have to worry about people following too close.

NM

Left of center...right of center... really doesn't matter...just keep off the oil strip.

I always volunter to sweep, but if that's not available, I find out who's going to be ahead of and behind me and make sure they are comfortable with me between them and they understand where I'll be on the roadway. They have to feel safe and enjoy the ride too.

But us Harley riders try not to ride behind a Wing, 'cause when them pins commence to flyin off their vests and hits ya, it stings like all get out !

We keep a very small person in the trunk... when approaching debris he opens the trunk and yells... squirrel!

When the wifey follows the trike she likes to stay back and extra second or two and to my right side. She says she can see around me better as I stagger to the inside of the lane.

Hand signals are pretty easy to use on a trike for left side debris. Just point slightly out and to the left. The right side isn't too bad as long as you aren't pulling the throttle back. If so, just raise your hand over your head and bend your elbow to the right. Sooner or later the person following will get the idea. At night I blink my brake lights quickly three times for oncoming hazards then make a deliberate move to the safe side.

That is why we don't loose nothing but side covers (right John) :p

I spell Harley like this --> Torque Wrench

I don't loose no stink'n bolts.

Now, to be fair... I was following a new Harley out of the dealership one fine summer day and saw something fall off and bounce. It kicked up from the road about head high and just missed my left temple. It was the shifter!

Now Dave.... Don't be giving katfish any ammo! He is always picking on my trike (but I'm pretty sure he's just jealous!) ;)

Dave that is funny. a friend of ours saw us riding down the road and waved Cathy and I over, as we were sitting in the parking lot talking his foot peg feel off his Harley.... He never said a word just leaned over picked it up, and left.....:D and of course we never said anything....

Sorry Nana, I have plenty of silly stories about Honda's too. When you least expect it is when they bite.

I just bought a 2010 SE Street Glide in Tequila Sunrise. Darn things go for 30+ K. I rode it home and it's one fine machine. When I was putting my beloved Gremlin Bell on her later that afternoon the right side floorboard fell off.

I was not a happy camper... this is also why I will be lodging under UB's RV at TT3 with the dog ($$).

Wizard very very nice bike. I love it. No excuse for poor assembly, especialy when business is slow.

Nice looking HD...enjoy!

The same thing happened to my friends brand new Ultra Glide, the shifter fell off getting off the highway on the way home from the dealership. Good thing I was behind him in my car. QC needs to be looked at again, especially with the HD, the American Pride.

Thanks guys, Sorry Chef@4... didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Anyone receiving a new bike from any manufacturer should tell them to "spec check" all bolts and fasteners before taking delivery. The dealership told me that checking floorboard bolts is not a part of their pre-delivery set up. It's the factory problem. I said it was their responsibility to make sure all bikes, new or used are safe before rolling them out. They couldn't argue with that.

Hijack over.

This is not about a bike or trike but it is a true story. Several years ago I worked in a body shop for a dealer. One day a guy that had bought a new mercury stoped in and said that he was going to leave his car there till I had found his noise. It was a rattle in the area of the door and low down. I took the car out and could not get it to do the noise so I said that it was gone :D He brought it back in 15 minutes and said (ITS BACK). Well I said that he would have to leave it so he left. I could not get it to do it so I called and ask him how he got it to rattle he said to nail it at a stop sign and then hit the brakes hard at the next one. Well I had not driven the car that way!!! So I tryed it and bygolly it rattled sure enough but would go rattle rattle and then thump. First thing I did was tare off the door panel. Drive it. rattle rattle thunk. Darn back to the shop take out the seat and drive it using a bucket to set on. Rattle rattle thunk!!! back to the shop. I am not going to say what I was saying at this point. I am now at about 3 1/2 hours into this problem. Next I take out the carpet. Test drive it and rattle rattle thunk.
BUT I have narrowed it down to the rocker panel that is under the door.
So I go back to the shop and cut a hole in the top of the rocker panel and stick a magnet it the hole and surch around . NOTHING!!!! So I take the car out on the street and with the magnet in the hole and the door ajar we try to duplicate the driving fast takeoff and fast stop.... rattle rattle Bink. ohoh
thats different so back to the shop. I take out the magnet and stuck to it is this rather large bolt and around it is a note that is taped to it. you see the bolt would rattle one way and then get stuck in the sealer and then you would slam on the brakes and it would come lose and rattle to the other end and get stuck in the sealer. It would ride there till it got dislodged. OH and buy the way the note said ( OK you finally found it!!!!) . So you see it is not always the dealer that is at fault...:blush:;) This total job took about 6 hours of labor. But I have had a story for a lot of years, But if I ever talk to some one that worked in a car factory that sayes he put a bolt in a car I think I will hit him!!! Well thanks for reading the rantings of a old man!!

Old Goat....THAT was the best hi-jack of a thread I have ever seen! ROTFL!!!

And now, back to our originally scheduled thread. (Sort of...);)

Around here if there is sand, glass, dead armadillos or something on the road it is brought to attention by pointing at it with one's foot if on a bike. While leading a couple of other bikes (I was on the trike) I pointed out some roadkill on the half shell, and saw the bike behind me suddenly swerve to miss it. THEN I remembered they couldn't see me point with my foot around the rear wheels. oops.

BTW Nice SG:yes: The price?:eek::faint:

Saturday, I rode my trike with our riding club for the first time. When I rode motorcycles and saw debris on the road I would point to it with my leg. I tried this Saturday on the trike and pulled a muscle in the leg.:( From now on I will give hand signals.

HIJACKED !!!

All you guys are hijacking our funny story thread.

Knew a guy that knew a guy that worked with a guy that knew a guy that got fired working for GMAC. Seems they traced a string with a washer hanging from it inside the dash in a new truck back to the factory line.

Oops
