We are back from the Honda Valkyrie annual get together

It was held in Taos NM and the area is a wonderful place to ride.

It is about 450 miles out and we did it in two easy days.

We had no rush to get there and we left early due to pending weather.

We were there about 7 days.

Now back to the title LOL

Of all the people I talked to about my trike, it was 3 to 1 in favor of the ladies.

So by all means, when you guys decide to quit riding your motorcycle, feel free.

That leaves more pretty ladies for me to talk to.

My wife is rolling her eyes:D and laughing.

Taos is beautiful and I've been there many times . . . but never without getting wet, lol. It can be warm and sunny and an hour later cold and rainy. Beautiful part of the country to ride in.

I think the reason I’m still around after 72 years is because I know my limitations. Until twenty years ago, I was a hoss. Now, I’m spindly legged with no where near the strength or reaction time I used to have. I’ve ridden motorcycles all my life and I intend to as long as the good Lord allows me to. Those same guys that snicker at us trikes are going to come the realization one day they either eat their words and join us, or give up the chance to be in the wind.

I have some friends who swear they will never ride a trike even is their wives will no longer ride with them on 2 wheels. FOOLS! When will they learn it is not an embarrassment to ride on 3 wheels? Not only have I accepted and learned to enjoy 3 wheels, but I have accepted that as I turn 66 I will never play in the NFL, fight MMA or participate in a plethora (like that word?) of manly things I used to dream about.
All I need is my wife confidently sitting behind me as we ride off into our next adventure on Big Red....good 2.jpg

Two years ago, I was that guy who said you would never catch me on a trike, heck no! Two wheels for me forever!

Three years ago after we finally sold our Victory Vision, we bought a used Harley Ultra. We missed our Victory group who had all sold their bikes and disbanded.

We started doing some occasional group riding with the local HOG chapter as my wife & I like meeting new people and socializing. We noticed every ride we would go on, there were a group of Trikes that were relegated to the back of the pack who were our 50-60 year old age group.

Everytime we would stop, they wheeled right around and backed right in to a spot, hopped off their trikes and were laughing and yucking it up. We were farting around in the meantime trying to get parked and get off the bike without dumping it, then trying to figure out where to put the helmets, gloves, and jackets. When we would take off to go, they hopped on and were always waiting for the 2 wheelers.

At the end of the ride, they were always joking around ready for more and we were tired and ready to go home.

After talking to them and getting to know them, they all said they would never ride a trike either until they saw how much more fun they are. Then my wife chimed in and said she never told me but was always afraid of being on two wheels and never knowing when we might dump the bike as I had done it a couple times while trying to park.

So we converted our bike to a trike and have to agree it’s the most fun we’ve ever had. Just wish I had wised up, swallowed my pride and done it several years ago!

I can mirror that exact comment….lol

I love that story and my wife n I agree wholeheartedly. The reason we never did until 3 years ago was cost. We have enjoyed our trike a lot . The only reason I would buy another 2 wheeler would be project light bike that I would ride solo only.

I remember back in my younger (and undoubtedly more rash) days saying I would never ride a trike. Then came the day that I either had to hang it up or ride a trike. I found I was not ready to quit ,soooooo I bought a trike and learned a different way to ride. (coughing sound in background as I choke on past words). I bought a trike and now 13 years later I am still able to be "knees in the breeze". Thank heaven for 3Wheels.

I had been riding on two wheels since 1971. I have ridden all over North America, and looked forward to my annual Road Trips each year. Distance and destination were driven by time available, so when I fully retired in 2017 I was off to Alaska, where I spent 51-days on the road. With a complete hip replacement last March and two knees that will eventually need replacement, I knew if I wanted to continue this lifestyle I would eventually go to 3-wheels. So last year my body made the decision to go 3-for-me, since giving it all up was not an option. And I am so glad I did. I make no excuses for my decisions or my limitations, and I am still out there in the Wind!

That’s about the same story as mine. I was enjoying riding my Ultra but knee and hip problems set in. I got worried I’d drop the bike. And the wife was hounding me to get a trike. She said she felt better about be being on three wheels, said she thought it was safer or something like that, LOL. Anyway she confessed she was scared to ride two any more on two wheels and if I bought a trike, she would ride with me more often.

I guess it was time. I was 71 when I bought the trike.

my story is a bit different, after 30 years with my wife, I always wanted a 2 wheeler, but due to some tragedies along the way, my wifes good friend/co-worker was killed on his bike, he had it a week maybe 2 when a car crossed center line and hit him head on, she was obviously hurt/scared that if I had a bike It could have been me, not to mention my 2 children were young, and she had no intention of raising our kids with me gone. ( i hold no animosity towards her for those fears) flash forward to 45 years old, diaganosed with Colon cancer, and after a year of battling that, I came out cancer free, and one of the things I had spoke many times about was to get a bike, well Trike, (due to the cancer fight, lost alot of muscle mass and strength in legs, thus my "dream bike" became a Trike). this all happened in 2016, and in 2024 finally retired and found a good deal on my 2013 tri glide ultra, I find it funny at times here i am at 54 years old just getting my motorcycle license, but the wife if more comfortable with the trike and loves to ride with me, will be very happy when warmer weather gets here (got the trike at end of riding season and been cold as balls lately, lol).

never really pictured me having a trike before, its weird the things that we take as certain and laid in stone, that can be changed in an instant, making our past certainties not so certain.

My wife, who knew nothing about motorcycling before hooking up with me, and had no desire to ride her own, changed her mind after going through the MSF Basic Rider Course with her best friend. She had just gotten her motorcycle license -- in fact, we were talking at lunch that day about what bike to get her -- when we were struck by a hit-and-run driver. By the time we hit the dirt at the side of the road she was done with motorcycles. She wasn't keen on me being on one, either.

I couldn't blame her for that, but me, I was not done. I'd had at least one running motorcycle in my stable at all times since beginning my riding career in the late '70s -- frequently more -- and could not get over my passion for riding. It's been my constant companion for much of my life!

She understood that, so when advancing disabilities from a work accident took me off two wheels, she encouraged me to get the Freewheeler that is now my daily rider. She still won't ride with me -- that's a loss I will mourn forever, and the one thing I cannot forgive the hit-and-run driver for -- but I'm grateful she understands and supports my passion for the wind and the road.

I'm glad you and your wife are able to enjoy your trike together. Happy Trails to you both!

Those that say they would never ride a trike are more concerned about being cool then being in the wind, oh well their loss.
Lots of guys walk up to me at rides and say, how do you like it and they always asked if it was hard to switch . Then they say I’m afraid it won’t be like riding bike. I tell them , go ride one.

when I was younger I was always on a 2 wheel bike, bmx, 10speeds, then at 16 got my first "motorcycle" scooter.jpg
a sweet little scooter always loved that little thing, then got old enough to drive a car, never went back to a bike, always missed it, then as I got to be an old man, (feel old anyway, lulz) got me the trike, never felt the difference of switching to a 3 wheel vs a 2 wheel, although that could be due to the Time that passed from the 2wheel days and now.
So take that with a grain of salt.

In the UK there is a common saying that 'bikers never grow old, they just buy a trike'
I'm 73 this year so living proof.
Dunno about the UK - my only visit thus far was a brief pass through Heathrow - but I found that trikes seemed very popular in the Republic of Ireland. I had occasion to go to a custom bike show there back in 2003, put on by a local motorcycle club, and found a tent full of fascinating hand-built trikes. Not a Harley among them, either!

been riding since age 12... just made up my mind at age 72,we had ridden 48 states & 7 country's I NEVER wanted to quit. So, in 2016 bought a new Tri, in 2020 another new Tri. we r in our 80's now & still riding. Met some great friends locally & at several Trike Gatherings.. Planning a ride out West for this summer & back in time for Maggie Valley in Sept. MY WIFE LIKES TO RIDE AS MUCH AS I.

I have been thinking a trike for quite a while and then my wife talked me into one. Cant wait for Sunday 3/9/25 as its finally going to be good enuff weather to go pick it up ! My wife said if we are going to ride in our 80's then we need a trike !

The trike added years to my riding days.

I've evolved a bit more. After 50+ years on 2 wheels, I went to 3 when I turned 70 years old. I then went back to a 2 wheel GL1800 for a year and found myself VERY uncomfortable. So back to 3 for another few years. I finally got to the point of leaving bikes (trikes) in my past and moved on to a convertible a couple years ago. Major life change but it was time. And I survived many years of biking enjoyment while seeing some friends not be so lucky.....
