Hot Foot

Anybody tried Design Engineering inc. (DEI) heat shields under their exhaust pipe covers? It looks like a good idea. Just wondering if it lives up to their marketing.

Installed V&H power duals to get rid of the catalytic converter. Waiting on tuner to richen fuel mixture to address the source of the heat. Several posts indicate this won’t be enough. Couldn’t find much of an outer metal heat shield.

Thanks in advance for any experience.

We have quite a few Customers that have done this.

You can see photos of it under the heat shields, and then with the chrome heat shields installed over it at this LINK.

It definitely cuts down on the heat radiating from the exhaust, regardless of engine temp or tune.

On an M8 you are going to be lucky to get a 5 F drop in engine temp with a good tune.

On a Twin Cam you will get a 10-15 F drop in engine temp with a good tune, compared to the stock tune.

Here is a LINK to a report on heat... actual engine heat, and felt heat, and the different things that can be done to reduce both of them.

Well them young things complain about hot boots all the time. Not long after buying my '14 Dyna I did the cat removal which happens to be right at the passenger peg. I also added the DEI Onyx heat shield that mounts outside of the of the heat shield. I suspect that the liner type would also work well. Maybe both?
