Helmets and hearin aids

Has anyone ever heard of a hearing aide friendly full face helmet? I don't mean something like a helmet with a built in aide, I can only imagine what something like that would cost

I was wondering if any company makes a helmet with recesses around the ears that give room for the aides to fit, and hopefully not feed-back. I wear a half helmet now, and can manage to keep 1 aide in and turned on. That's workable for sirens, road noise, and getting by at the gas station. But no aids with a full helmet on will leave me totally silent, which makes me uneasy on 2 wheels.

I asked at the local dealer when I stopped in, they'd never heard of anything like that. I really don't want to spend upteen bucks on a new helmet and then start carving out padding, especially not even knowing if it will work.

Appreciate it if anyone has heard of anything along those lines.

Take a look at a helmet that is ready to be fitted with built in earphones. Get it brfore its fitted. there will be cutouts that should allow your hearing aids on your ears.

The only workable system I have found is Mama in the passenger seat. She hears well and is my riding ears. We have helmets with the cutouts (I haven't put the speakers in mine), but found the hearing aids only served to amplify wind noise. Sounds like I wasn't the only one who didn't use good hearing protection early enough in life.

I was told by my hearing aid specialists that I couldn't wear them in a riding situation. Aside from that, I do wear headphones (for talkin' to my lady) inside my helmet...would think there would be enough room there for hearing aids. It is a flip up HJC helmet. I looked at the Arai 3/4 helmet at the bike show... it seems to me that it had removeable foam panels. Ya might wanna take a look at those. Chumbly-

I wear a 3/4 helmet with recess for intercom ear buds and I have no problem with my hearing aides squeeling or hearing my co-pilot thru the intercom system.
We listen to radio a lot too.
I cant imagine riding without them.

I recently went to an audiologist to get a professionally made set of ear plugs. While I was there he suggested I get a new set of hearing aids. Since I go to the VA these are free for me.

I wear the ear plugs to ward off road noise. No way would I ride with hearing aids as this will double the road noise. When I get off my trike the ear plugs come out and the aids go in.

With the ear plugs, I can still hear my music from the radio or the MP3 player, but the road noise is really subdued. Both my full face helmet and my 3/4 Bell helmet have speakers in them.

That is totally different from my situation. Sorry. I am hearing hampered so I want to keep what little I still have so I use the ear plugs to lessen road noise.


Road noise cannot worsen your hearing so the hearing aids will amplify sounds around you.

My hearing aids go fully into my ear so no special helmet modification is necessary. If yours fit around the ears many helmets have areas to put speakers in and I would think the hearing aid will fit in those recessed areas just fine.

I got in a hurry yesterday and forgot to take the hearing aids out before riding and it was way too loud. That is why I got the ear plugs.

I suffer from two maladies. Cant hear **** Cant Remember ****

Steve: I used to ride with a friend who was in a similar situation. He wore either an Arai or an HJC, both of which have ear pockets; full face in his case. Arai is of course the much pricier of the two. His aids were well inside his ear. Hope this helps. G'luck

I use a hjc full face modular and have hearing aids in my ears and speakers in the helmet and all works fine, just have to watch when I take the helmet off as it tends to loosen one of the aids and sometimes fall out, the brand is oticon and have the extra unit to make the aids work with the bluetooth from my cell phone.Hope this helps you

Mine are IN THE EAR, and I am sure that would make a huge difference.

Unless you havv practically no hearing left, It would be very foolish to put hearing aids in your ears when riding as this will amplify road noise causing you to tire easilly and hasten the loss of what hearing you have left. I had another hearing test Friday for VA compensation and specifically asked the audiologist about wearing aids when riding. She was very emphatic? Don't do it.

mine are in the ear, quite small and very workable as well as comfortable
