Harley Tri Glide versus Everyone Else

They must be a lot more reliable than we give them credit for because they are becoming very popular, all over the country. Every time I go out on the highway,I see one or many more on the road.

A friend of mine,Lamont Bryden, runs the SpyderLovers website.

Clint, they sure did something on the new GT's that I wish Harley could tame and that is the heat issue. Reportedly, the rider of the new Can Am's are not experiencing any hot right legs or left legs for that matter:clapping:

The new 1330 engine is a lot better engine than the old 998 CAn Am.. Seen a TRIGlide today and reminded me of the truck I use to drive over pot holes..

Tikermutha, Anybody who tries to argue that a Harley isn't agricultural compared to a new state-of-the-art 7 computer controlled 1330 Rotax CanAm is trying to piss up a rope. However, that being said, I love my 2016 TriGlide tractor and found the sound of the power made by those two powerful jugs was intoxicating on my 6k mile journey. I am doing a complete service and can't wait to get back on that vibrating mutha! Capt. Bob

Bob-

Had both and Like pissing up ropes..All is good..:D

Can't wait to see you anti-triker guys when you're 80 and can't get your leg over the seat much less put your feet down to hold up your 2 wheeler. :AGGHH:

I'll ride by you with a smile from ear to ear shaking my head in pity watching you in your LazyBoy eating baby food. :pepper: ThumbUp :) I'll still be in the wind and loving every minute of it.

Stay young - you're going to need it. :D

I've rode trikes since 2008, just went to a Can Am Spyder RTS 2015 new. I can honestly say its the best bike I've ever owned which is many.... 2 wheel and 3 wheel. My brother just bought a Tri-Glide and I wouldn't trade my Spyder for his Tri-Glide for any amount of money. I've had Goldwing trikes, Vulcan Voyager trikes.....no comparison other than in the minds of other Bikers! Safe Riding!

Oh boy, you've done it now!:laugh::laugh: Members of the Tri Glide Nation will soon be along to correct the error of your ways.
Just kidding. Glad you're happy with your Spyder. They have come a long way and are still getting better.

Yeah I thought the same thing! :D

He is probably correct. The CanAm has come a long way and is a very nice trike. But if you are a traveler it's hard to beat the dealer network the HD company has. Now give it a few more years that too may change. For now I ride and love my TRI

Hey guys..... Everyone that rides no matter which make they may ride are Brothers, Lets not get too..... For lack of a better word ;Crazy ..Over brand loyalty..:Coffee:

You must have a crystal ball that can make that statement then..:D
Nah...my wife is a witch.

Don't know who you're talking to, but mine is all in good fun. Hence the :qpnmt: emoji.

Besides, the title of the thead IS Harley Tri Glide vs everyone else...just holding up the brand.. I'm betting trikermutha understands.

I agree so far all in fun. I'm a big HD supporter of the TRI but the new Spyder's really are a great trike from the reports.

All is good..Just having fun..I do still like the Harley but really cant stand there parts. IMO unreliable. And I was getting older. My crippled ass body couldn't take the TRIGLIDE beating me up anymore..:AGGHH:

So tried a Spyder and haven't looked back..I still like to read up on these forums..:clapping:

By the way I do still own my first Harley and had it converted awhile back. Just need to get it running again..:D

Maybe I'm a different varmint, but I like'em all. The best thing all of us have in common is choice. If it were possible I'd own one of each. :Coffee:

Seeing more larger groups of Spyder owners at bike runs lately. As large as 20 in a group, so must be pretty good machines. Seem almost human too. :D
Still think Red and Evo is the best IMO ThumbUp

The ONLY thing I have against the Spyder is the 2 wheels in front. It makes it seam like you're riding an ATV - that I can't live with. I want to at least feel like I'm riding a 2 wheel motorcycle.

But I agree with Catfish if it has 2 wheels or 3 wheels, scooter/moped/motorcycle
they are all in the same family and they all get a wave from me.
Even motorcycles/scooters that have the bolt on outrigger set up(4 wheels).

So flame away if you must.

I left out part of your quote where you stated that all motorized vehicles we ride are good and I agree with that statement. I also agree with your above-mentioned observations about 2 wheels being out front. A Spyder does remind me of a snowmobile although I have never ridden a snowmobile. There is also a "visceral" experience that seems lacking with the Spyder that is represented in spades on the Harley. Certainly am not saying that one is better than another. Just very different. Like yourself, the Harley trike is more like the 2 wheel motorcycles I gave up than I find the Spyder to be in terms of a replacement for the 2 wheels and increased stability. OTOH, due to the "agricultural" qualities of Harley's and as a former pilot, I think I would enjoy the latest iterations of the Spyder with their upgraded engines, reduced felt heat and seemingly significantly higher performance capabilities when it came to power/acceleration, etc.

Like others, I cannot justify owning two toys that serve similar functions.

Having just completed a 6k mile, 15-day ride out West on the Tri Glide, I can't wait to get back on it and do a week in the Eastern Smokies in the next couple of weeks. Each and every time that I get off my trike, I have a grin that is from ear to ear and I cannot remember a machine providing so much enjoyment as my 2016 TGU has turned out to be. My desire to get back on 2 wheels is diminishing greatly with each new ride and it is unlikely that I will ever return to 2 wheels although I miss that feeling of "flying" around curves. I am getting used to missing that feeling and supplanting it with new riding experiences that the trike is providing.

I started off young on a trike...I was only 48 when we bought it. We did so to be able to take my special needs daughter on rides when she wants one. I had a Night Train, and like you, I miss the feeling of flying in turns and curves. My oldest daughter worded it exactly like that when I asked her if she missed the Night Train. She doesn't much care for riding on the trike. She says she just feels like a passenger, and doesn't feel like part of the 'experience' as she puts it.

I too, was missing 2 wheels pretty badly for awhile. Now it's really growing on me. As another member of the forum put, it reminds of having a suped up go cart.

I can really fly through curves with it. If I've got the balls to hang on, I can take it through a curve at just about any speed I want (within reason of course).

One great thing that has come out of buying the trike--I can get my wife to ride with me. She's already rode with me more in the year we've had the trike, then the 19 years of our marriage before riding on two wheels. The only problem we have is finding a babysitter for our special needs child. Costs out the wazoo when we can find someone qualified to take care of her ($15/hr). So a 4 hour 'date' costs an additional sixty bucks on top of what we might do while out.

Okay, I've managed to derail this thread. I'm out.

OK, I am blaming ALL of this nonsense on Trikermutha! Sorry but somebody has to be the fall guy:xzqxz:

Here I started this crazy post on TriGlides vs. everyone else and an itch developed so bad that there was another kind of trike that would round out my beloved Tri Glide Ultra. Well, as I said earlier, it is all Tikermutha's fault and I don't even know his first name. Go figure. Brought home a slightly used 2015 Can-Am F3-S with a 6-speed manual transmission from a Central Florida dealer yesterday during a blowout month-end factory sponsored sale. Had to ride about 130 miles out of 280 miles through some pretty heavy rain to get her home. The picture above is of us stopped at a Clermont hotel after a late afternoon purchase where they have the 500 foot tall Citrus Tower that was one of Florida's biggest attractions when it was built in the mid 1950's. The hotel was on a hill overlooking that famous but eclipsed tourist destination. The day before I bought the trike, I had taken a brief test ride on a RS-S and decided that strafing twisties at sport bike speeds was in my rear view mirror.

However, I get a sense that this F3-S is going to provide a very nice balance to my TGU with a completely different powerplant and ride setup.

One thing I forgot to mention is how my senses had left my body for a brief period. Here I had all of 20 minutes of riding time on the RS-S the day before pickup of the F3-S and two miles from the point where I was given a brief but thorough explanation of the controls and startup procedure, I was on the Florida Turnpike rolling at 70 mph behind my wife who wanted to get as far from Orlando as possible and all of its rush hour traffic. Soooo, no ride time on the F3 and away I go on the Interstate. Kind of reminds me of the handoff of my first bike at age 15.5 in Southern California where I was shown the controls and then rode off onto mean Southern Cal streets as a young teenager. I guess some things don't change some 50 years later.

Now, if I can only modify the "UFIT" Can-AM feature to place the controls facing the rear tire and turn the seat around, it will be an easier transition to this modern trike and the wheels will all be in the right place like my Tri Glide. :qpnmt:

Did you try the semi Automatic..Now that put me in LA-LA land..:D No clutch handle and only paddle shifting.

Anyway..Sounds like you must have liked the new 1330 then?

Go ahead blame me all you want :D

Once you get it setup for your style of riding you will have a blast.

Did not try the semi-auto.

I like a bit more control than letting the bike downshift for me. I know that in race cars and other high-performance cars, paddle shifters are the way to go. I am a bit old school when it comes to shifting. The 990 twin is definitely more sport oriented and revier but I thought about my aging process and diminishing testosterone levels and realized that I would not have as much fun as I used to riding my R1's, 998 VTR's, Ducati 748 on the tight stuff with the engine whining. The 1330 is more vanilla but also more state-of-the-art in terms of cooling, service intervals, felt heat, etc.

I really don't blame you for going over to the "dark" side and coming back and sharing your Can-Am experiences. It helped me to realize that the old adage of "different horses for different courses" is as true today as it ever was. I like more spirited rides and was mildly contemplating two wheels (against the wishes of my wife) when I realized that I just like triking better now. Can't completely explain it but it makes the riding experiencing more enjoyable after having put about 400k seat miles on 2 wheels in a 50 year period. My recent 6k ride out West on my TGU just reinforced my love of trikes.

However, I am not ignorant of mechanical/engineering issues and have a healthy appreciation for somewhat "agricultural" machines such as my TGU but also felt that I could embrace the higher technology embedded in the Can-Am. I think it will be a hoot to scream around the back country on the F3-S and take the Tri Glide on the longer trips where I require more luggage and comfort.

BTW, I can't tell you how many times on the ride home from the motorcycle store that I would move my right hand toward the non-existent front brake and get a big chuckle. It is VERY weird to rely on a completely interlinked system that just uses a foot pedal brake.

Your right about the setup. At the selling dealer, I had them adjust the handle bars and actually had them replace the shift/brake control bars with #3's as this fit my relatively short legs better. In my community this morning after having washed and detailed the trike, I noticed on a roundabout in the community that the rider pegs are ideal for weight shifting and allow pretty extraordinary control with my feet and body weight. I have to look into the upgraded sway bar issue and am not sure if the F3-S has already accommodated updates in this area?
