Handlebar Help

I just installed a set of 2" pull back bars on my TG, & did,'t have to change anything but the bars either............Someone is just trying to sell parts ! And it looks like it works.........!

It sounds like when I have the bars changed out, maybe I'll hold up on any cables and see. I'm sure it will save some money. I'm looking forward to a more relaxed ride.

I just had the H-D 2-inch pull back handlebars installed and they really do make a huge difference. I guess I got the "deal of the century" because my dealership only charged me for 3.5 hours for the install. May have been because two of us went in to see if we could get a "package deal" on the bars and installation and they agreed. No new brake cable, there was plenty of slack. They did change out the clutch cable instead of rerouting it through the fairing like others have said can be done. For the price though, I guess I won't complain.

Good luck in your search and like others have said try out different styles on other trikes. Everyone's needs are different.

I'm not complaing,it was well worth it to have the dealership do the job. Plus I got the braided brake lines, which are alot better than stock. You can actually get more pressure with the braided ones since they don't expand like rubber only lines. I use to work in a wire factory for 21yrs and made braided stuff. We had the largest braiding machine in the world. It's amazing how the machine works.

I don't know about the price being the same now, But the Wiz says the Crossbones stock clutch cable is a few inches longer than the TG, & is only about $35..... Worth a check !
Speaking of the Wiz,,,,, what come of his dip stick ???pepper

Last Wednesday, I visited a competing HD dealer and ask them to price out the labor to R&R handlebars. The service department quoted $410 labor. Calculating using their hourly rate of $82 per hour, that comes out to 5 hours of work. That's half of my dealer. Sorry dealer, I've got to go with your competitor.

My new handlebar dream has died and I'm going to bury it now. We found out that we cannot swap the handlebars on my Ultra Classic Limited Trike because of the ABS. New handlebars would require a longer cable to the ABS and they don't make one. Local Harley dealer suggested that we see if a custom cable could be made. I am not up for that as I think it is going to get pretty costly and I don't want my Trike to be the "guinea pig."

I can not believe you need a longer. Just what cable are they talking about? My brake cable was not changed; only the clutch cable.

Patriot, does your TriGlide have ABS? My Trike does and it will require a longer ABS brake cable for longer handlebars, which no one makes.

You have a cable on your hand brake. I thought all motorcycles went to hyd years ago. Are you sure you still have ABS ? Most loose ABS when the rear wheel is removed.

Can the reduced reach seat help anyone versus replacing handlebars..I know if the seat is redone or replaced it will change the way you are positioned in the drivers seat..

Just a thought!!

I was able to try out a reach seat but it didn't help. The only thing I really need is the reach handlebars. (It's all ok, it might just be the nudge I need to give my husband to let me trade it in on a Goldwing Roadsmith Trike!)

My nephew has an Ultra Limited that he put mini apes on last year. He also has ABS. I don't know what mods he had to do, & he lives in Wyoming so it is a little hard to check it out. But he did the change himself, & the only problem he had was the throttle wiring ended up wrong. It took him a while to figure out what he did wrong.

Sloufoot, I would love to talk to your nephew about what he did to swaphis handlebars. I will private message you with my email if you can pass it on to him. Thanks for the info!
