Gotta rant

And what surprises me is how many people buy a new bike and get a 3 year extended warranty and think they have 5 years of warranty. The extended warranty runs concurrent with the factory so it only extends it 1 year after the factory runs out.Just checked with my dealer and a 2 year warranty for my Tri is about 1500-2000 so that would give me a total of 4 years now that my factory warranty has run out.Hate to spend it but with this bike it may be a requirement. The service writer whom i have known for years asked me if there was anything else that was wrong since he was going to put it on this warranty claim. I have always said that your warranty is no better than the dealer that will honor it.

Mykneesbehurtin,
Have you checked/verified the battery condition and all associated connections?

Yes i pulled the seat and fairing side covers checked every plug i could get to and as far as the battery the cables are tight and it cranks and starts like it did from day one.

What's your battery voltage before cranking & while cranking?

Also, the charging volts at idle, after it's warmed up. That's how you check the battery condition, after checking all connections from the battery at both ends.

Never really checked voltage while cranking but will when i get it back, running at idle when warm it is just above 14.Got a call today engine Temp sensor was bad as far as reverse the service writer wasnt sure if it was the breaker or the motor either way parts are on order.

Not to put down Harley but I have a 1997 Goldwing and was able to buy a brand new factory seat and some other parts from Honda, so far I haven't had too many issues getting factory parts on a 21 year old bike. I think if you look hard enough you would find parts on older Victory or Harley bikes. Maybe the only parts would be specific to the conversion on older trikes when Leman built them. I'm sure at some point I may run into the same with CSC as well.

You can buy parts from Harley for bikes back in the 1990s. Same for Honda. 10 year limit doesn't doesn't apply to all parts and accessories from a manufacturer. Only occasionally for some parts that have been discontinued. And even then, Harley, Honda, and others will continue to make them for years.

Someone mentioned an ECM. I am sure that if you take a 1996 Harley into the dealership with a bad ECM they won't tell you that they cannot get the part and fix the bike. Heck, Boardtracker shows a ton of oem parts for 20+ years old Harleys.

A couple years ago I was able to have a complete engine rebuild done on a 1982 Goldwing with oem parts.

My point was that with Victory - there will be nothing from Polaris period after the 10 years elapse. No parts or accessories. Heck; I don't even think they have any accessories now from Polaris - just what you may be lucky enough to find sitting in the discount bin of your local dealer.

As long as theres an Internet.....You can get parts for just about any thing...My Wife's Suzuki....2002 Gran Vitara Needed a passenger side power mirror with heat, Some how it fell off while she was pulling into the garage ..;).. Two day delivery right in a Suzuki NOS Box... ...Same just last week need a gas cap and it was delivered in two days.....

Glad the found your problem.

14vdc is very good at idle. it's charging properly. My FW is usually 14 or 14.1vdc. If it drops low while cranking, it can indicate a failing battery. It should not fall below the very high 9's or 10VDC.

When checked in a static (sitting) condition, it's best to turn the switch on for a minute or two, to drain off any surface charge on the battery & then check the reading while sitting & it should be between 12.4 & 12.7vdc.

Too many of the HD Dealerships now days are boutique type shops IMO

Many of their techs never worked on any 10 year and older bikes let alone these dealers would probably not want to tie up money on parts they may or may not sell

Thank God for dealers like Boardtracker that had hind sight to buy up alot of NOS parts and make them available to the market

We must be especially blessed here in Tennessee as very one of the dealers I've been to (except the Lynchberg Dearlership - which is motorclothes only) is a full service wrench shop. And we have a large contingent of 90's Harley's in our local chapters (both Hog and third party like Southern Cruisers) that still get parts and service on a regular basis. Every time my bike is in for service (regular or otherwise), the service bays have a mixture of 90s, 00s, and 10s being worked on.

That being said; there is an extremely likelihood that different areas of the country experience different levels of service based of what the local economy will support.

You are indeed very fortunate. Travel to other states and you can run into real trouble with older machines. If they can't hook it up to their magic computer they are lost. It's really sad. 07 isn't that old and I had to wait 2 weeks for parts and was lucky they found that one. And they could still hook my machine up. Get older and you could get into real trouble.
