RANT V&H Monster Ovals don't fit!

I had researched slip-on mufflers on J&P Cycles web site. They listed the Monster Ovals as a choice when I searched for my 2013 Tri-Glide. I ran across a used set on Ebay for a heck of a deal (considering these list for over $700) and bought them. After a big ordeal getting them, the owner went into the hospital and took 32 days to receive them. Anyway, I finally get around to install them yesterday and they would hit the fiberglass above them if put on the mounting brackets. I thought about spacing them down so they don't hit, but this left me with only 3 1/2 inches of ground clearance. Considering they stuck out a bit farther I felt I would be dragging them on the road all the time. Checked out the Vance and Hines website and guess what, they say the Monster Ovals don't fit trikes!! I love the way they sound. Anyone with a two-wheeler want to buy them?

Are they bigger than SE 4" slipon? If not do you have trike lift brackets from t-glide or DK products they wou8ld raise your back end up.

These mufflers are about the same height as the stock mufflers, but are 5 1/2 inches wide. They don't fit in the muffler cut out at all, hit both sides.

I had V&H Monster Ovals on my 2008 Ultra with a Roadsmith conversion. They are the best sounding mufflers ever. If you go with lift brackets you should not scrape them. My $0.02.

They make a monster oval just for the trikes. I have the monster rounds on my trike without any problems. Love the sound !

Are the Monster Rounds or Ovals the same size as the V & H High Output? They look like the same size...?? I just put on a set of the High Output and they fit perfectly and no scraping issues.. I do have a lift kit..And they have the lowest tone I have heard...Love 'em..

Hi y2k_harley, I know I'm a little late with a reply, BUT if you really like the sound & look, if they fit better, I would not hesitate doing a little bit of modification to the bottom edge of the body. I don't think it would take much to make them fit and once you make the mods you could just paint the bottom edge or make trim pieces from alum or stainless steel.
If you don't want to make the mods to make them fit them I have an offer for you. I have a set of V&H's TWIN SLASH ROUND on my 2011 Tri Glide and I would trade you even-up for your Monster Ovals.

The Mstr rounds, & the HO's are both a 4" muff, but the ovals aren't really a true oval. They appear to have a more flat top that would throw up a fit problem. I don't know how the sound compare to the HO's, but the ovals & the rounds both sound the same to me. I love that low note !

I see they did a Monster Round for Calif. with a built in CAT.

Ok...I see now what you mean with the ovals...Yep...they are flatter on top, and they would make a difference in the fit. I get a lotta comments about my low rumble exhaust. My neighbor, who rides also, sez that when I leave my house now, he can't hear my TG as loud as he could before, but he can feel it more! Deep deep rumble.

I wish I would have found monster rounds.

From what I hear they sound pretty much the same, but would actually fit.

I am a little (or a lot) hesitant to start cutting up the body on a $30K trike. It would be cool if you could modify the cut-out to fit the ovals, but I'm not a body man and would rather spend the money on other accessories.

I appreciate the trade offer, but not sure what Im going to do. I have asked around to biker friends to see if they know of anyone local that would buy them.

I just got done e-baying all the parts off of my old bike and really not wanting to deal with shipping anything. If things change, I will drop you a PM.

I think you're correct about the body mods! The only way to do that would be to build the same type eyebrow for the body to have the strength around that area. If you didn't do that you could change the flex points of the body & end up with stress cracks from the modification. The only way to do that is be able to work fiberglass & do some glass matting around the area.

It can be done, but by someone that can handle the work & painting .

In other words, do it right or not at all. The results could be terrible & expensive !:cxtv:

By the way EBay has a set of Monster rounds used for $275 if you are interested.:

I missed your reply until this AM, but keep me in mind. I mapped everything out on my TG and it would be so easy to make those monsters fit, the mods would not show & part of that eyebrow would stay. I hate to think how boring our Trikes would be if everything stayed stock, take a few minutes to really look under your TG to see how easy the mods would be. Take some tape & cardboard, make a template & measure & tape-out how LITTLE of the body would be removed, don't let a chicken little keep you from a great looking exhaust.:D
