Myself and three friends rode our 1800s to a dealer and got the recall inspection done today. None of our bikes failed the inspection. Out of curiosity I asked the tech how many he had done so far and how many had failed. So far two out of forty were bad. That is much higher percentage then I expected to hear.

Has anyone had their bike fail the inspection?

My local dealer tells me that one failed out of 40.

I don't know if there is a failure when they replace a master cylinder, It just means that particular cylinder could fail.

I didn't fail the recall inspection, but when they triked my bike last year they called and said the Secondary master cylinder was bad so they replaced it then. :)

I haven't had mine in yet but the dealer said they have only had 3 or 4 that needed to be replaced. I plan to take it in next week, I don't figure they will find anything wrong, it only has a little over 2000 miles on it.Can hardly wait for good weather.

Hi Gold Rush!
Jim and I caught you at the Midland Honda dealer and yak-yak-yak'd at you before we went on down to the TMRA chili cook-off at the Water Valley park. I know you had a warmer ride going home than coming in! Hope it didn't take too long at the shop.

The chili cook-off was nice - a good group came in. Dream Rider Trikes group rode in. There were people from different parts of the area. I'm not good at guessing crowd numbers so I can't say how many were there with accuracy - maybe 60-70 between the comings & goings. Camaraderie was good, chili was interesting. They had a bake sale auction that was fun and a 50/50 drawing.

Nice to talk with you in Midland. Ya'll take care and we'll catch ya' down the road!
You are right about not many GL 1800 failing, but when you go to the dealer and he says you have to leave the trike, then it becomes a hassle as you have to have someone standing by just in case this happens so they can come and get you. My dealer is over and hour away, so there is no walking home.
From what I hear, please let me know if this is correct, the rear wheel brakes drag, correct. I know my trike will roll in any slight incline, so maybe it is good.
Have a great day, as I sit here and take in the "beauty" of the snow. Oh well, that's New England for Ya!

Strange - I rode my 2006 Roadsmith conversion to the Honda dealer in Louisville this past week for the recall check. They asked me the name of my conversion (Roadsmith) and checked the VIN number on their computer and told me my bike was OK. They never inspected the bike. That leads me to believe that only certain VIN numbers and/or certain conversion kits may be subject to the problem. Perhaps the Roadsmith kit automatically replaced that part at the time of conversion.

I suspect your kit has had the front and rear brakes delinked. Some kits do that and disable the secondary master cylinder (the one that is failing). If that is the case there is no need for the actual inspection.

We rode over two hours in mid 30 degree temps to have the inspection done. Since there was a possibility one of us would have to ride back seat home we went as a group. Sure was glad none of us had to leave our bikes.

I've seen the actual document the dealer works off of and I don't think just saying it rolls OK is a good enough test. Any Honda dealer will do the test so if you have one closer then you dealer of choice it might be a good option....

Gold Rush you are exactly correct.
You said "I suspect your kit has had the front and rear brakes delinked. Some kits do that and disable the secondary master cylinder (the one that is failing). The Roadsmith conversion does indeed delink the front & back brakes on the 1800.
To all of our customers who own Roadsmith Gold Wing Trike Conversions and want to know about the recent brake recall from Honda...

Our HT1800 kits have always had the secondary master cylinder on the fork disabled. In our conversion process, the linked brake system is no longer used because it is not effective in the "triked" configuration. Happily, there is no mechanical or fluid link between the front and rear brake systems and the secondary master cylinder on the left front fork can not possibly have any affect on the rear brake system.
Thanks and ride safe!
