From a GL1800 Trike to a Stallion Trike

I'm considering buying a Stallion Trike next week, once I sell my GoldWing. Is there anyone here that can tell me what to expect. I haven't had a chance to ride or drive one but my wife wants us to own one.

You are so wrong....... they are noise, the bearing has to be done every 10,000 miles and you lose about 900cc you go from 1832cc to 990cc ther is no trunk space you cannot even put a Helmet back there.

But to each there own.

I have had lots of motorcycles in my 45+ years of riding (40+ with some type of trike), and I've owned a Stallion. I don't know if I have an opinion about the Stallion - you'll either love it or hate it. I liked the power (2300cc), dependability, guarded from weather, top engineering quality. I didn't like the loss of 'motorcycle' feel - the steering wheel effect just seemed to lose the zing and freedom for me. Again, absolute top quality engineering all the way around, but it is quite different.

Hello, My wife was one of the first 50 delivered. She has put more than 30k miles on hers and is very happy. She was not a MC rider previously except back 30 years. She would not ride behind me. She saw the Stallion when it was still a concept model and ordered one. Waited 18months and has not regretted owning it. It gets her on the road riding with the rest of the group. Different but still the same. Hope you guys like one. You should be able to find a dealer to let you demo one.

Perhaps you are confusing a Spyder and Stallion. A Stallion has 2300cc and you can fit 2 helmets in the trunk, plus a lot of other stuff, just ask my wife:wtg:. A spyder has 2 wheels in the front.

I have a Wing Trike and my wife has a stallion, we both love our respected trikes. She likes the way a stallion sits, it makes my back hurt, I much perfer the ride of the wing. So I highly recommend driving one. I will say they are a blast to drive, and my wife loves hers, she actually rides more than I do, as she uses hers for work, and I have to drive a company truck.

In total agreement with you on everything you said Larry. My wife loves the Stallions but I prefer motorcycle based trikes. Its a matter of personal preference. I also agree with the seat hurting your back after extended rides. A seat upgrade would be a major help.

Stallions are great if you are looking for a trike! But beware of the mechnical issues that surround the Stallions. They are not going to run like a Gold Wing. They are not a high production motorcycle. They have issues that need to be delt with, and if you buy them new they are all under warranty. It is a labor of love because there is nothing like it on the road. If you buy a used one you need to find out the service record on it, and make sure the upgrades have been done. You do not want to have to do extensive work out of warranty.

I loved mine until the day I sold it. It got my wife and I into riding MC's and one day we will return but for now we are two wheeling it!

Be careful before you make that leap. I went from an 05 GW trike to 09 Stallion, then back to 09 GW trike 7 months later. Too many issues with the Stallion, but the styling is unique. Am happy with my ride now.:Shrug:

As for buying a "new" Stallion I haven't checked in a good while but would be very surprised to find very many 2010's out there.

I had a Goldwing trike for three years before getting the my Stallion. There are many thing different about the GW and the Stallion and for sure the steering wheel over the bars is the biggest. I like the automatic transmission and I think it takes the curves better than the GW did. As for as the seats, I just got back from a 1800 mile trip and the seat was great. The back rest is ajustable and my wife said she was as very happy with her seating. One of my complaints is the radio / cd not enough speakers.

We had a GW 1800 before Stallion. My husband misses the leaning in the twisties but after a motorcycle accident (2-wheeler) he likes the stability of the Stallion. I love being able to drive it too. The unique styling makes it a fun drive. Have taken it all the way to California from Houston. Have not experienced the mechanical difficulties others have written about. From a co-rider perspective, the comfort is about the same as a GW. We had upgraded the seats on the GW. Haven't gotten around to it yet on the Stallion but haven't felt the need to. I can get my helmet in the trunk and lots of groceries. We added a cooler rack as needed for trips. Be careful though, with the heat coming off the back, the luggage gets hot. Go for it, you and your wife will be glad you did!
