First short trip for me

Wife is doing the grandkid babysitting thing for a week, so I went to visit her today. About a 3 hour ride one way. Started at 49 degrees on the way up and ended at 75 degrees on the way home. Leather and long-handles worked great. I had asked earlier about recommendations on seat pads. It seems the Airhawk R is popular here and after reading extensively on the subject I will be ordering one when I gather enough pennies to pay for it. Just to prove their claim about tailbone relief, I found a cheap foam pad at Wally World that had the tailbone cutout. Where before I was getting a sore one after about an hour, I had no tailbone pain after the three hours. Let's not talk about the other pains I felt though.
I found that one other item I need to get is a backrest. I'm not used to having no back support for that long.
Overall, it was a great trip. I'm asking myself now why I waited so long to get back into riding, and am glad the other half pushed me to get a trike on top of that.

I have used the Airhawk. It has it's advantages and works. I have used it on long trips. But when riding thru the Oregon mountains on my triglide, it made me feel like I was going to roll off of the seat going thru the curves because of the air in the cushion. Didn't like that. So now it is in the trunk of the triglide. Don't use it anymore. Maybe because the seat is broken in it now or my butt is. Back rest, yes. I have never really liked them but was sort of talked into a back rest when I was getting all the extras ordered for the trike before pick up. Now I am a believer. Wouldn't ride with out one. I purchased the one that is adjustable and the adjustment lever is right under the front of the seat so I can adjust as needed while riding.

Don't get me wrong. Grandkids are just fine. But I rode to see my other half. She's the one babysitting and I'm tired of talking to myself. The conversation and the cooking sucks. 6 hours of kids and I was back on the road to a peaceful home. :)

That's my main hangup about ordering one. I would hate to put the money into that if it stood a good chance of being a trunk ornament. I asked around with my friends in this area to see if someone had one I could borrow, but nobody acted like they had ever heard of them. One friend uses a gel pad, but that was it. I'll go with a backrest first and keep looking for an Airhawk to sit on before buying one.

Anyone have any backrest suggestions? I'm leaning towards the Harley stock one just for the adjustable part and because it is actually made for the trike and not adapted to it.

Air Hawk

I love my Air Hawk. If you are rolling off the seat there is too much air. I have a nice almost new jell pad I will trade for it. I never leave home without my Air Hawk

AirHawk

Not sure but maybe you have too much air in it - I have one as well and have used it on all my bikes and now use it on my Tri-Glide. Absolutely love it - I can ride 500 mile days without a sore butt - makes touring soooooo much better.
Yes, it takes some getting use to and it does sit you up a tish higher but once you get the right amount of air in it - it's a Godsend!!!
