I found this post interesting on another site and thought of sharing.
--------------------------
I have a 2014 CSC Cobra conversion on my 2005 GL1800 with the optional auxiliary fuel tank, so I should have about 10.5 gallons total. But I noticed that when the low fuel warning light comes on it will only hold 7 gallons and I knew that there should be a little over one gallon in the main tank. Afraid to test it to empty, I sent CSC an email and following is their response:
"Hello Larry,
When the trike conversion is done and you get an aux fuel tank we still use the stock fuel pump and level sending units. You are correct that when the light comes on you have approx 1-1.5 gal of fuel remaining. That is the amount when it is just the oem fuel tank on the bike. Our aux tank sits at the same level as the oem tank and uses gravity to transfer the fuel from tank to tank. It works under the same principle as water always seeks its own level. As the fuel level goes down it is also going down in the aux tank. When the fuel light comes on now you have the 1-1.5 gal of fuel in the front tank and also 1-1.5 gal of fuel in the aux tank. With 7 gal of fuel going in the bike shortly after the light comes on tells me that the aux tank is working properly.
I hope that this helps,
Feel free to contact us any time if you have any questions or concerns regarding the trike conversion.

I post this here in case someone else wonders how the aux tank and gauge works. I assumed the aux tank was higher than the stock tank and, therefore, drained completely into it. But it is level with the stock tank.
So now I know that when the fuel warning light comes on I have a little over 3 gallons left.
