Chrome Front Rim

Hi Trikers, I have the original front rim on my 03 GW 2015 Roadsmith trike and chrome on the rear. I would like to have chrome on the front as the original is gray and pitted. I can't see spending $1,100 for a new chrome one. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks in advance.

I just got my wheel back from being chromed.

Here is a photo after it arrived.

And after I installed the valve stem, bearings, rotors and had the tire mounted.

I used Classic Chrome Plating in Santa Ana, CA. There are the shop that most dealers send their wheels to be chromed. Several chrome plating shops here in Tennessee recommend them as well. The cost for a GL1800 front wheel is $285 + 4.9% waste fee or a total of just under $300 delivered back to you, including shipping . You have to pay only for the shipping to them. They are currently running about 3 weeks, however they completed mine in a week and a half. The only thing I had to do was to tap out the rotor bolt holes and grind down the bearing races for a proper fit of the bearings. A small flapper wheel attached to a Dremel worked wonders, but this is a finesse job with small amount of removal being done at a time. Take too much out and you have to start over again. You will have loose bearings and would have to send it back to be rechromed. It's like cutting hair, you can't put it back. Here is what it looks like:

Good luck!

When I ordered my new 06 Goldwing Champion, I told the dealer to put on a chrome front rim to match the chrome rear rims. The chrome rim shine and stick out, on a white trike.

Actually for the rear I got the American Racing Torque Thrust in chrome. I could have ordered a matching Torque Thrust billet front wheel in chrome, but the cost was excessive. Especially as you pointed out that the rotors hide most of it. The cost was $840. Seems like a Warren Buffet price to me. And this wheel is 17" which then creates a problem with tire selection, especially if you wish to use the new Avon Trike tire.

So $300 for mine to be chrome plated vs $918 (including tax) for the odd size matching wheel, seemed like a no brainer for me. Especially since, as 1dn5up has stated "the rotor hides it."
