Morning all. Stopped by my bike shop yesterday for a surprise visit. They are deep into the TG. I could smell the stator from 10 ft away. It was cooked good. Looks like it took out my new battery also. New stator in today. Once back together, the coil will be checked again.
Only 10k miles on this stator. No reasons seen to cook it. Permanent magnets rotating inside in excellent shape.
Feeling more confident of having it back in time for NETT rally.

Bozo, don't want to see you in your truck again, once is enough.
Did the stator drain the battery of fluids? When my alternator went, the battery was completely dry. Had to buy a new battery.
I wonder if there is a correlation between the stator/alternator failing and a dry battery?

Actually, I think I am starting to see a correlation between compensator and stator. My working theory is that vibrating worn stator is causing permanent magnets to be vibrating while spinning, causing erratic magnetic field in stator. Thereby frying stator. With 71k on trike, I've seen it happen regularly. Now if only HD would read this and admit they already know this....Hey, look. There's a pig flying overhead.
