yesterday after lunch with friends, my wife and I headed on home heading down the highway doing 65 we heard a terrible noise from the rear of the bike I pulled in and off the road to find the rear tire shredded. We were lucky we have the voyager outrigger kit on now. as we were able to stay safe. I called a friend who came down and we pushed the bike up on the trailer and got it home. the next step will be removing the voyager kit jacking it up and remove the rear tire. OH YES my tire was 8 yrs old and I just checked the pressure a few days ago and made sure it was up to 38 PSI. as I get it off I'll take more pic's and I'm going to order a new on to install.10-8-2004 blow the rear tire.jpeg

Glad you are OK and home safely.

You mentioned the tire was 8 years old. On my bikes, I would consider changing them a bit sooner. My tires were installed in 2022. By 2027, regardless of the miles. I will more than likely change them.

I was able to get the Rear blown tire to day here are a few pic's nothing else happened the rest of the bike is fine. The old one was a Dunlop, this time I'm going back to a Michelin Tire CrossClimate 2 205/55R16 91V All Weather Tire. the last one worked out great till I got a 3/8th inch bolt in it. once I get it on I'll take some more pic's.

Curious - looking at that tire - could it be that since you are using a voyager kit, at times, the bike rear tire is moving, yet barely touching the ground.

As a result, you are like spinning the wheel like doing a burnout.

Only three words that come to mind: WoW! WoW! WoW! o_O:eek:
I hope that you replaced "BOTH" rear tires, and not just the one (???)

If you have a garage, I would hang that tire on the wall, not just for your memory, BUT the fact that you and wife are "both" safe ~n~ sound, and it certainly, would make a great conversation piece........

From what I read in this thread, it was the rear drive line tire that failed. He doesn't have a "trike" but rather a Voyager kit so besides the drive line tire that failed, he would still have the 2 outside tires on the Voyager kit that weren't affected. He would only need to replace the drive line tire but it wouldn't hurt to also inspect the 2 Voyager kit tires as well.

I agree - this is why I suggested that the way he has it set up, he is burning out the rear tire.

Oooops! "my bad" I stand corrected  ( then it was a good thing that you did have a Voyager kit on the back) it appears that the two additional wheels on the back end save'd you. :)
My next question now:, is how can a tire get that bad, for a immediate blow out??? It appears, that the tire had been flat a long time and he was drive'n with it be'n flat for many miles (??) I'm surprised  that the operator of this bike, couldn't hear the blown tire, thrashing around under him, with the tire being in that condition (???)

I just checked the tires front and back only 2 days before, after I looked back to see when I put that tire on the bike and it was 8 yrs. ago. and 28,000 miles.

Installed the new tire on the bike today, everything fit right and I will take it out for a ride tomorrow. I have to worm the tire up to get the ride on to do it's thing. they say it may rain tomorrow morning. we haven't had rain were we live about 70 mile south east of Phoenix, Az. in Hidden Valley 17miles south west of the town of Maricopa. all the rain seems to go around us.so we hope we get some tomorrow.New Rear Tire.jpeg

OK. I took the bike out today for a long ride (50) miles (not that far) and all the small problems I had that now I know that they all stemmed from the old rear tire that blew out on us. it rides smooth, no wobble at all and it handles better on the highway and in the turns. I'm now happier them when I first installed the voyager kit. the weather has cooled down & it's time to ride! it's been 110's hear all summer, but the wife never said no to getting on the bike to go for a ride, we're getting on the bike tonight for a ride and a few drinks.
