I am planning to replace the battery before riding season starts. Bike has the original oem battery in now since 2006. Have looked at a few on Wingstuff.com but none are the Yuasa brand that Honda uses. Also been checking out Interstate and NAPA batteries. Anybody out there have experience with batteries other than Yuasa and what do you think about them? Bike is an 06 GL1800.

I purchased the Interstate for mine. Had a local dealer in case I had any problems, I did not need him but if I had he was only a couple miles away.
Good luck in ur decision.

If you pull the Interstate lable off that battery you will see the "Yuasa" name under it. YUP same as the OEM battery.... Small World...

Do not hesitate on the battery purchase. I was all geared up to go riding yesterday. Got on the bike and fired it up. It ran about 5 seconds and quit. I don't mean it died or sputtered to a halt. It quit like I had hit the off switch on the handlebars. Because it happened so abruptly I figured it was a fuse. Nope. Then before I really got involved I called a friend who has ridden Wings for years. He told me flat out it was the battery. And then told me if it wasn't the battery he would pay for the cost of the new battery.. It was a bad battery. Had been in the bike for three years but on a Battery Tender when not on the road. He told me that his luck with the Honda Wings and their batteries was so bad that he bought a new battery every year on his birthday. I just think he had more money than necessary. I just went to the local Honda dealer and bought a Yuasa 20 amp for $80 out the door.

You might want to check your alternator while you are at it.Just a suggestion.RIDE SAFE

You may laugh but I use Wal-Mart batteries and never had a problem with them. I keep mine on a battery tender all winter long and spring time it fires off like a champ. I've had this one for about three years and it still running strong. But, I do not keep a battery for as long as some people do, so maybe this year I will get a new one. For $80, it is peace of mind that it will start every time.

Who do you think makes Walmart batteries....they sure don't!
I was told by a battery person a few years back it is only 3 or 4 makers of batteries and they just put other names on them.
Just like MTD does with their lawn mowers/tractors, an example would be these stores Hechinger, Lowes, Sam's club, Home Depot etc.
My dad used to be in charge of a big companies independant labeling.
I asked him what was the difference between their product and an independent company that they are labeling for and he said "the label".
Stanley tools used to make B&D, Craftsman, Benchtop (K-mart), JC Penny's, etc saw blades. I know this because my wife used to print the different labels on them.
Bottom line I wouldn't be afraid to put any battery in my bike.
You can bet I will look at Walmarts because I run them in my auto's with no trouble at all. :10:

Same with tires and gas. There are only 6 or 8 tire manufacturers in the world. They all "crossbrand" their products to the point that there is no telling who actually made the tires you buy. Gas is even worse. Valero is now the largest refiner in the world. They sell their gas to everyone, including all the majors and many independents. The only real difference between brands is the additives and the amount of water in the underground tank. The basic gas is exactly the same no matter where you buy it.

Re: Battery Recommendations

TexasGuy you hit the nail on the head, yes they are made by the same company but they set their own specs so they are different. A Friend of mine worked for Argus Camera years ago and he said a camera would come down the line with Sears on it and would fail quality inspection, they would take the same camera and put an Argus label on it and it would pass and ship. Like said here only a few people that make batteries but they are of different quality. If you buy Sears this year it may be XYZ but the next time it may be ABC just depends who was the low bidder for the contract that year.

Delphi makes Everstart batteries. You can purchase Ever Start batteries at many known department stores. Some of these stores include Walmart and Target.

Agree. Just for comparison purposes, I checked the price of a Kymco replacement battery which I just changed out last week. I bought the top-of-the-line battery from Auto Zone for $34. The same battery from Shorai is $190. I don't argue with the fact that the Shorai is a great battery and well worth the money; I just can't make myself lay out six times as much money for essentially the same battery no matter how good it is.

Maybe Shorai should talk to GM about putting them in the Volt?

I buy a new Walmart battery every 3 years. ( do the math ) $54.00 over 3 years. Then another $54.00 the next 3 years. That is $108.00 in 6 years and you have a brand new battery every 3 years. Buy a $98.00 battery and after 4 years you are on an old battery and on borrowed time. If you live where you can ride 11 months out of the year the expensive is a better deal. A battery stored in a resting state tends to die an early death even on a tender.

If one has a Goldwing with "everything" on it, fully accessorized, plus a few extra lights, does that affect the decision of which battery to buy? How about amp hours and such which I don't understand?
