Any good ideas on removing a neck bearing?

:Shrug: I got the front end off and the bottom race in the neck has no edge to get ahold of to drive it out of the frame neck.
Harley has a special tool.
Short of grinding it out im at a standstill.
I can borrow a tool come monday but damn i would like to get going back together,

i have used a long screw driver down through the top and put it along the top edge. It will eventually grab it all ways has for me.

Perhaps i could take my dremell tool with a thin grinding wheel and cut 2 small slots horizontaly on the race and try to give that long screw driver a place to grab on to.
If i get a gap on the seat i could drive it the rest of the way with a drift punch?

I'm gonna roll the dice and assume your bearing is a conical roller and rides in a separate race.

If you're trying to save the race, go in from the top like Gorilla said, and tap around the edge with a brass or soft steel rod.

If you're going to replace the race and you're not worried about damaging the bearing surface, you can go at it at an angle to catch the edge a little better. Takes a little time, but you'll be able to drive it out.

Im only keeping the top bearing

i tried, no luck! I even tried grinding a groove and splitting it.
If i dont get the removal tool 2morrow i just might try to weld a bead around it so it will drop out. I have done this many times in the past.
It's in an inconvenint position to do that though. Hard to get a bead cler around it!

I tried grinding on it with a dremell tool for a couple hrs, and trying to split it with a punch.

I got fed up with that and used a trick i learned as a heavy equip. Mech.
I used to weld a bead orund a race an watch out it didn't hit my toes.
With this race i just put a couple spot welds on it to have something to set the punch on.
It fell out with one tap.
I should have done that in the first place but was nervous about it.
So heres one for your future library of tricks ok?

Glad you got it out. When you but the new one in remember to put the new race in the freezer for awhile to shrink it. Easier to install.

I had that race in the freezer and also started it with a rubber hammer and then seated it with a trailer ball as per bazooka's suggestion. Worked well!

I retired from a power plant after thirty yrs. in the mechanical maintenance department. Many of those yrs were as a welder. I have used that procedure countless times (most times welded a bead all the way around) to remove bearing races. Most however were gigantic in comparison to the neck brgs of a motorcycle but the procedure is the same.
