Any Ideas With Regard to a Backrest Delimma?

I have a 2013 Triglide. Any suggestions as to what I can put between my back and the backrest short of wearing a backpack? I am 5’3” and cannot reach the backrest as I am sitting straight up to reach the handlebars and controls, which is comfortable, but I haven’t made a long trip yet either. The stock seat is nice enough and I bought a backrest but it does not benefit me at all. I was thinking along the lines of a rolled up cushion that attaches or hangs over the backrest – kind of like a T-Bag that fits over the sissy bar like a glove. (Hmmmm, I wonder if someone has patented this idea?)

Is it the adjustable backrest from HD? I installed that year's ago. It can be adjusted up/down and tilts forward or back. Locks into whatever position. I'm not that short, so I have it back a ways, but it goess way forward.

Ever thought about extending the handlebars? It is expensive on a Triglide but may be worth it to you to consider.

Rainey, It's worth a try and you have nothing to loose but try going to a seat or upholstery shop and maybe they can make you a custom one to your specs for a reasonable price. It shouldn't be too hard to sew up one with the amount of foam you require for thickness and a simple strap to attach it.

This is what we use; my Bride put this together in about 20 minutes. This pad moves her closer to the controls to where she can drive if she desires, but removable if I desire to drive. It just zips on and off of the back rest as needed. The reason it is not a large in length (top of backrest / down to the seat) is for storage. We can take this pad with us on trips and it does not take up that much room in the trunk. Hope this helps.

John, if your bride created that backrest pad in anywhere near 20 minutes, maybe you & her should go into business together. You could do the promoting & office work and she could create upholstery items for bikes, things that people want but no one makes. That pad is very creative and looks good and Rainey could be your first customer. ThumbUp

Now that is nice and handy as well !:10:

Great ideas! Thanks to all. I like the velcro idea. I also thought about using my day bag that I had for another bike. the back of it slips over the seat like a glove and it is round in the front. I would just take the straps off and insert a round pillow into it. Have to be creative to save money sometimes! ;)
