Amount of rear end oil.

In speaking with a mechanic in Jasper IL over the holidays, we were discussing the rear axle bearings and seals. He told me to change the rear end oil and take note of how much came out. He stated that many mechanics over fill the rear end at build time. This shop was dedicated to trikes. He said to replace it with just one quart. Not filled to the bottom of the fill hole as a car does. Just one quart. He stated overfill will cause premature seal failure. Makes sense. Is one quart enough for the Champion Suzuki rear?

Mine had 40 oz left in it not counting what leaked out.

You need to talk directly to Champion and get this info from the horse's mouth. My mfg states oil level should be 1 inch below fill hole and that is what I will do when it's time.

I had to put new spider gears in my wifes 1300 vtx motor trike rear end last winter along with new axel seals. I called MT and was told 1 qt. this is a ford 7.5 in.

After speaking again with the trike mechanic in Jasper, I have decided to go wth his recommendation of 1 QT only. Not fill to bottom of fill hole as one would do in a car ot truck as stated by young person at Champion. He received this info from Champion many years ago and it makes sense. Champion uses Double Sealed bearings on the axle and there is no need to drive gear lube out to the bearings at the wheel. Less oil, less pressure on the axle seal, less problems. All that is required is to lube the rear end pig. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
